About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Texbiker.net Posted on February 27, 2007 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 27, 2007

Mikail Davenport, 58, has post-polio syndrome and he’s a cancer survivor. Tuesday Davenport kicked off a 950-mile, 25 day cycling tour to prove that having a disability is not a death sentence. He’s calling it the Legless Lizard Tour de Tejas.

Texbiker.net Posted on February 27, 2007 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 27, 2007

In its fourth year the Spring Breakaway ride is back and for 2007 has many exciting routes for both the experienced and novice riders. This year we have a 24 mile, 36, 50 and 65 mile routes. These routes will take you past the beautiful rice fields of katy Texas and through the rustic scenery of far west houston.

The riders will roll out of the Katy Mills Mall (in front of the Sun & Ski shop) at 8 am. There will be a disc jocky on the premise to provide the atmosphere and the riders will provide the fun.

Fees: $25 if postmarked by February 20th, $30 if after that date.

Route Slip

Texbiker.net Posted on February 26, 2007 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 26, 2007

I was reading another bicycling blog from a rider in the Dallas Fort Worth area and he mentioned a website Route Slip. Sounded interesting.

The purpose of Route Slip: “RouteSlip.com is a website for cycling enthusiasts. You can map out your favorite bike rides, print out route slips, create elevation profiles for your rides, manage your training log, and interact with other cyclists.”

There are similar websites.

Beatrice Tour of Texas

Texbiker.net Posted on February 25, 2007 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 25, 2007

Now that the Amgen Tour of California has been completed I was thinking back many years to the Beatrice Tour of Texas. I still have a bicycle cap from the last year of the tour. I went to the Astrodome for a criterium around the outside road that circled the dome. The sun was hot as was the racing but the crowd was no where near the crowds in California. But this was before a guy named Lance and even before Greg Lemond. Sadly Beatrice disappeared as a sponsor and the Tour of Texas last only a year or two after that.
