Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

TXDOT May Kill Bicycle Path Funding

According to a post on the ctchouston.org forum, “State transportation officials have abruptly ended a program aimed at making roadways prettier, safer and historically relevant, blaming federal budget pressure caused by war and hurricanes.” This includes bike paths and other bicycle funding.

Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team Training in Texas

According to a post on Recovox News blog, Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team will be training in the Austin area beginning today (December 3rd) for nine days. Watch for Ivan Basso and the guys if you are on the roads in the Hill Country.

5th Annual Frost Bike 50 – Cypress, TX. 8:00 AM at Cy-Fair College, 9191 Barker Cypress Rd. Registration: $25.00 if postmarked by January 6, 2007; $35.00 January 7, 2007, or later, including day of ride. All pre-registered riders, if registered by January 24, 2007, are guaranteed a T-shirt.

Rider Ready – Houston

Rider Ready is one day program that includes a safety clinic, bike maintenance, a flat changing clinic, a bike fit, a bike check up, information on cycling clothing (like…why do you wear spandex shorts?) and hydration. The information provided in this program will help anyone doing a long distance bike ride and help Boy Scouts with their cycling merit badge. This event will be held at Hockley Community Center at 28515 Old Washington, Hockley, TX 77447
