About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Gmap Pedometer

Texbiker.net Posted on November 15, 2005 by Rick AnkrumNovember 15, 2005

This is a site that uses Google Maps interactive features. While the name points to walking or running you can still use it to make a map for your ride route. The instructions are pretty straight forward. You can even export your route in the GPX format to use with GPS units. Gmap-Pedometer

The site is simple to use. Navigate to a trail or road route you plan to take, zooming down so you get a good level of detail. Click the “Recording” button, then double-click on your starting point. Drag the map around to trace your route, double-clicking at as many points along the trail as you like.

The application tracks cumulative mileage as you pass along the trail or road, and there’s the option of tracking calories burned if you’re running the route. (The latter isn’t particularly accurate, since the application does not take elevation — and thus ascent or descent of the route — into account.)

RoadBikeRider.com

Texbiker.net Posted on November 12, 2005 by Rick AnkrumNovember 13, 2005

There is a new link on the Books and Other Resources page.

RBR Publishing Company (dba RoadBikeRider.com) is a Vermont-based corporation founded in 2001. The chief poobah is Ed Pavelka, a 30-year veteran of cycling journalism. He has served as editor of VeloNews, executive editor of Bicycling and produced more than three-dozen cycling books. His road cycling career dates to 1972 and emphasizes long-distance events.

Until retiring in the spring of 2005, longtime cycling writer and coach Fred Matheny was RBR’s vice president and primary content provider. Lots of his writing remains on the free site and Premium Site. The RBR eBookstore carries his “how to” eBooks for road cycling improvement.
