About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Tyson Faifer is best known as the first comedian to ever compete on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior and you may recognize his face from your favorite reality dating shows; most recently on ABC’s The Proposal.

Tyson’s act has been described as smart, witty, and a ball of energy, covering topics such as his love of the 90’s, growing up on the Mexican border, and the struggles of living in your early to mid/late thirties.

His first comedy special was recorded in 2017 for Ride TV and can be seen by tens of people who actually have that channel. Now living in Los Angeles, Tyson has been touring the country and is on his way to a city near you. In the meantime, you can still find him on reruns of WeTv’s Million Dollar Matchmaker, Fox’s Love Connection, The Steve Harvey Show, Ford Mustang Speed Dating Viral Video, Judge Hatchett, and SoulPancake’s Date My Dog.

The event will benefit the Erwin Skills Park Mountain Bike Trail in McKinney Texas. …

Stayed With The Pack For 1st Sprint, My Attic Legs Couldn’t Keep Up Then

Texbiker.net Posted on December 23, 2022 by Rick AnkrumDecember 23, 2022

I was back to France for today’s Zwift bike ride. I rode with ZHCC TGI Flat Friday group E. The route was the France R G V for 60 minutes. I wasn’t sure how I would ride because my body was sore from crawling around in my attic yesterday afternoon putting foam insulation on water pipes. I rode the Cannondale Evo bike with the Shimano C40 wheels. The ride description said the pace would be 1.3 to 1.5 w/kg but I’m not sure if that was true. It seemed many times I was above 2.0 w/kg. I stayed with a large group through 1 sprint but the second sprint they were faster than me. A group of 13 got ahead of the fence and were deleted from the group according to the leader’s message. After the second sprint I rode alone with the sweep behind me. The sweep, Eric Bonner, rode near me for the last several miles until close to the end of the ride.

The last time I rode this route was January 20th of this year. When I started today my goal was to ride the same distance as that ride, 18.17 miles. I did better than that with 19.58 miles and 469 feet of climbing. Of the 5 times I rode France R G V today was the third longest miles and fourth highest average speed.

France R G V was Released with Zwift’s France map for the first-ever Virtual Tour de France, the R.G.V. route covers the upper, larger loop of the map in a clockwise direction. The first 12km is pan-flat, while the back half includes a timed KOM and some rollers along the river. “R.G.V” stands for route grand vitesse, or “high speed road”. A fitting name, since this route is definitely one for the sprinters. Though only 24km in length, it includes three timed sprint segments! (from ZwiftInsider.com) One lap is 15.0 miles with a .6 mile lead-in so today I rode more than 1 lap. Each lap includes 351 feet of climbing. The profile is mostly flat but there are several lumps with the biggest one at 8.1 miles. I didn’t change gears going up the hills so my legs handled them better than I expected.

This morning when I got up it was 14 degrees outside after a strong cold front blew through last evening. That was why I crawled in the attic. It warmed up to 30 when I finished today’s ride but still very windy. This is not the Houston weather for outside biking. Around 17,000 Zwifters were online at the start and 13,000 afterwards.

While I was riding in France I listened to SiriusXm The Message channel.

Strava results: PR on Pavé Sprint Reverse (32s), 2nd fastest time on Start Pens Lead-In to Marina Sprint Banner (1:33), 3rd fastest time on Ballon Sprint Reverse (35s).

You’ll be doing alright in your Christmas of white Zwift – Tempus Fugit in Watopia

Brent Wells | strava.com

Well, to say I’m getting the hang of this would be a joke! However, it certainly beats sitting on the couch since it’s 25° outside. I brought my computer from work home since it is a Lenovo that uses Windows. I couldn’t get my MacBook to download Zwift yesterday. I certainly learned that I needed a big shop fan blowing in my face and an old t-shirt handy to wipe sweat! If a cyclist as hard-core as Jeff Skokan can actually say that he likes Zwift, then I guess it can’t be all that bad. I’m thankful for the few days I have off now to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and it will always be Him that I thank for saving me both spiritually & physically, and allowing me to return to this sport that I love.?

3 Climbs, Only 2 Descents. Zwift Island Outskirts On Makuri Islands

Texbiker.net Posted on December 22, 2022 by Rick AnkrumDecember 22, 2022

Before starting today’s group ride in Zwift I went to my garage and change to the Cannondale Evo frame but kept the Shimano C60 wheels but I should’ve change to the Shimano C40 because they have 2 stars for weight versus 1 star for the C60’s. I looked for an event and chose the Los AvHispados group ride using the Island Outskirts route in the Makuri Islands. Too many “islands” in that. From the group name I figured most of the dialogue would be in Spanish but there wasn’t a lot and most of it I figured out what they were saying. There were over 20,000 Zwifters on line when opened the companion app to join the ride which started at 12:10 PM my time. When I checked after the ride the Zwifters had declined to just over 17,000.

The event was 60 minutes long so the distance was determined by how fast I rode. I ended up riding 16.66 miles. Climbing was 3 times up the major hill in the route for a total of 794 feet. The climbs weren’t steep with the max at 6%, I think. This was my first ride on this route but several of the roads are part of other routes that I have done. The nearby Zwifters for the group was about 124. Group D was supposed to average 1.0 to 2.5 w/kg but not long after the start it was evident most were pushing 2.5 and more. It didn’t take too long for the group to pull away from me. I rode solo most of the ride with a few small groups passing but the sweep (A.CS [HISP]) did not pass me. He stayed behind or just in front towards the end of the ride. Thank you. At the end I was surprised with the results, finishing in the top 11% of my category.

From ZwiftInsider.com: “Taking in (almost) all of Urukazi’s outermost roads, this loop gives you a tour of the island group, taking you to the highest point on the map along the way.”. Each lap was 7.0 miles with a .1 mile lead-in. I did the big climb 3 times but only got to go down 2 times.

I listened to Pandora’s Contemporary Christian Radio during the ride.

Strava only has 2 segments for this route and I managed to get these results: PR on Festival Harbor Climb CCW (6:11), PR on Island Outskirts (24:06),
2nd fastest time
on Festival Harbor Climb CCW (6:38), and 2nd fastest time on Island Outskirts (25:12).
