Stage 5 of the Tour of Makuri had a tough start. In the initial .6 of a mile the climb hit 10% which I wasn’t expecting. I rode for the first time the Makuri 40 route covering 25.08 miles with 1,037 feet of climbing. The Zwift description said most would complete it in 90 minutes but it took me 1:35:35. There were 5 sprints spread out over the ride finishing up that same 10% climb that started it all. I used the S-Works road bike but there were sections of sand/gravel where I could’ve stopped and changed bikes but I didn’t know how long it would last.
I listened to Pandora’s Lauren Daigle Radio during the ride. Several of my favorite songs helped me keep the pace up.
The details from ZwiftInsider.com. The brief description: The longest route in Makuri Islands, Makuri 40 covers major parts of all three sections: Yumezi, Neokyo, and Urukazi.

YMCA Gator Ride Update
email
I hope this email receives you well. We are connecting with you today to give an update on the YMCA Gator Ride.
After 33 years, the Baytown Family YMCA has made the difficult decision to step down as the host of the Gator Ride due to a lack of staffing resources to fully support an event of this magnitude. This Baytown tradition has provided thousands of riders with the opportunity to participate in a great ride with others in their community ensuring that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive through the fundraising efforts of this event.
The Baytown Family YMCA continues to provide for youth and families in the community offering After School Care, Day & Holiday Camp and Teen programs. We continue to look toward the community to support our efforts in these areas through our Annual Fundraising Campaign.
The Gator Ride will move forward with another local organization, Hearts & Hands of Baytown.
Sincerely,
LaKeisha Harris
District Executive Director
Baytown Family YMCA
A traffic safety report presented to the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Board on Nov. 14 showed traffic fatalities are up in the region. The report also shows distraction is the most frequent reported factor causing the crashes.
“Regionally, crashes have been trending upward over the last 10 years or so with the exception being the two-year period during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-2021,” said Jeff Kaufman, Texas A&M American Institute of Certified Planners associate research scientist.
The report prepared by Kaufman looked at 16 focus areas, including regional crashes, which …
… The report showed nonmotorized road users, especially bicycle and pedestrian fatalities, are 21% of all the region’s traffic deaths, despite only being 2.6% of all the region’s crashes. Pedestrians represent 90% of fatalities, compared to 10% of bicyclists. For serious injuries, it is 70% pedestrian versus 30% for bicycles, the report said. …

As expected it was in the 30’s at the start and was still in the 40’s when I stopped for lunch in Cleveland, TX. After lunch the sun started peeking through the clouds, and I was able to shed some layers. By the time I got to Houston it was in the 50’s and once more enjoyable to be out on a bike. Actually, I believe a bad day on the bike beats a good day most anywhere else! About 20 miles from home things were very familiar and it hit me that this tour was ending. I found myself slowing down to savor the final miles. When I pulled into my driveway it was done. Finishing at home makes the end more final. Finishing at some …
The project, expected to be completed in 2026, includes bike lanes.
Tired of traffic in the San Antonio-area? The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) aims to help alleviate some of that traffic congestion.
On Wednesday, November 16, TxDOT, Cibolo, and Schertz officials broke ground on a new $39.2 million project, according to a news release. The construction on the four mile stretch of road from FM 1103 to I-35 to Rodeo Way in Comal and Guadalupe counties began in November and is expected to be done by 2026. …
… The construction will expand the current 2-lane road into 4-lanes, which will feature a center turn lane. Additionally, 6-foot sidewalks and 5-foot bike lanes will be added with the aim of improving transportation for pedestrians and cyclists. …
She loves it. It allows her to ride with me and keep up. Now all of her errands are bike first, car second. It was an amazing transformation. Urban e-bikes are a very viable use case (as I have always said).
I’ll probably never have one. And definitely not ever a trail bike. As a comparison, that bike is 2X the weight of the bike behind it. …
Bre’Ana Powell was riding her bike home from work when she was struck and killed by a garbage truck. Now, her family wants justice.
HOUSTON — The mother of a young cyclist killed by a garbage truck is calling for change.
Diane Henderson-Francis said her daughter, Bre’Ana Powell, 27, had just gotten her first apartment and was working overnights at Hobby Airport. She would text her mom every morning to let her know she got home, but on the morning of Oct. 8, she never made it.
“What does it take? For their family member to go through this? Because I mean, how would …

Today I rode stage 4 of the Tour of Makuri Islands on the Neokyo All-Nighter route. Yesterday’s stage had 3 KOM’s and today there 4 sprints and 1 KOM over the 15.1 miles. I didn’t set any personal records but compared to my only previous ride on the course on December 13th, 2021, I was faster. The December ride was a longer distance and time than today. The free ride format means there are other Zwifters on the course but not in an event. I saw the nearby Zwifters count a little less than 5,000.
Except for the KOM I tried to keep my speed in the 18 to 20 mph range and mostly succeeded. In the sprints I came in around the last 25% of the Zwifters which isn’t too bad for me.
From ZwiftInsider.com, “Introduced in Zwift’s November 2021 update, Neokyo All-Nighter is the longest “Neokyo-only” route upon its release. At nearly 25km in length, this route covers nearly every bit of road in Neokyo, including 4 sprint segments and the Rooftop KOM.” Route basics: Length: 24.3 km (15.1 miles), Elevation: 167 m (548‘). Lead-In: .3 km (0.2 miles).
EL PASO, Texas – Last Sundays Ride is a newly created non-profit organization that’s all about mountain biking and women empowerment. On the last Sunday of every month, women in the group go for a mountain bike ride on various trails across the region.

In October, their bike ride was a breast cancer fundraiser. Now, the organization is an …

Last night before going to bed I decided to check the pressure in my tires – good thing because my rear tire was flat! This flat occurred on the same section between Oberlin and Merryville where I had 5 flats in April and eventually canceled my tour. There is so much debris and shredded tires on the roads in Louisiana it’s hard not to get a flat. If I was going to get a flat, this was a good time to find one. I repaired it inside my nice warm little cabin. Today I road to Kountze. Crossed the boarder into Texas 4 mi outside Merryville. Stopped at a great little cafe in Kirbyville for breakfast. I road faster than I needed, because …

Three of the jumps are now rideable, but not complete. Volunteer this Saturday to help finish building the jumps and fine-tune what gets built. We are able to source large rocks and dirt nearby, but we just need help moving it.https://t.co/5Fd3fccaP4
