About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

stormmtb.org

Saturday, October 1, 2022 The annual Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day (TKMBD) is scheduled for October 1, 2022, at McAllister Park. See the Events calendar for more details.

While STORM hosts the STORM Kidz ride on the first Saturday of every month year-round, October 1st will be particularly important as we will be partnering with the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) to host the Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day (TKMBD) event in conjunction with other mountain biking organizations across the country.

Day 22: Marathon TX to Sanderson TX

Thursday September 29, 2022 55 miles almost all on a decline with little headwind – Our petitions were answered! The V6 coffee shop was 1/4 mile from our campground so OF COUURSE…stopped in for a latte to fuel the ride. Met Meagan, who works at YETI, who coincidentally had camped beside us last night. They were in town to do a promotional photo shoot. She came equipped with her mountain bike and planned to use it after her work day. I think I convinced her to bike x-country someday soon. Whilst readying to leave I was fortunate to bump into …

Coach missing one big motivation for third 450-mile bike ride

By Brooke Colombo | dentonrc.com

Jeannette Krupp will ride 450 miles on a bike across the Midwest to bring awareness to drug addiction, which caused her brother’s death in 2021. Krupp is the strength and conditioning coach at Denton High School.

Frustrated with feeling powerless as her brother battled addiction, Denton High School’s conditioning coach Jeannette Krupp knew she had to do something to bring awareness and empathy to the nation’s overdose epidemic. So, she put her athleticism to the test and embarked on a 450-mile bike ride.

Jeannette wanted to help people understand that just because someone struggles with substance abuse, that doesn’t mean they are any less human or deserving of compassion and support.

“Everywhere I go, someone connects with it,” Jeannette said. “That’s the stigma that we’ve got to stop because every one of those junkies is …

Two Other Cyclists Were Up To No Good

Texbiker.net Posted on September 29, 2022 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 29, 2022

I didn’t ride yesterday because I spent time with my niece but while I was off the bike two other cyclists were up to no good. They claimed my Strava Local Legends on two segments. Shame on them for taking advantage of me not riding.

With the day off I decided to ride a longer than normal route to make up for some of the missed miles. I chose my Stroker Road – Huffman route. The last time I rode the route on August 23rd I biked 43.88 miles so today I added a couple of streets in Kingwood and came in at 46.02 miles. I changed the streets in North Woodland Hills Village in the first 4 miles, made a short trip into River Grove off W. Lake Houston Parkway, and near the end I took different streets through Bear Branch Village. I don’t ride this route much as this was the 4th time this year. Now that the road construction on FM 2100 north of Stroker Road is nearing completion I can ride there more often. All 4 rides have been on the same bike, my Cervelo Caledonia.

I rode by several grass farms as you can see in the video. At Pinehurst Trail Drive at FM 1960 the video shows road construction action where I edged close to the main lanes of FM 1960 to get out of the way of the dump truck catching asphalt being ground up. The video shows the only cyclist I saw on the ride.

9-29-2022 YTD Bike Ride Stroker Road – Huffman Route

I waited for the temperature to warm up some before starting the ride at 10:19 AM. It was cooler than I prefer so I watched the Cro Race Stage 3 during the wait. The cool front dropped the humidity and dew point below our norms and the barometric pressure is higher than the norm. Lots of sunshine. I’m riding the Pineywoods Purgatory on Saturday in Lufkin and this cool weather will test my preference to bike in warmer weather. It warmed up to 80 by the time I finished at 1:52 PM. Weather summary: start 70 (humidity 41%, dew point 45), fair, wind E 9 mph; finish 80 (humidity 36%, dew point 51), fair, wind NE 8 mph. The wind was stronger than the numbers reflect. Riding north on FM 2100 for over 4 miles into a headwind required lots of leg power.

From the AXS.SRAM.com ride report and the cadence data from Stravini. Over 10,000 crank revolutions, the headwind on FM 2100 didn’t stop from using the 35×13 gears.

Man Charged with Manslaughter in Wreck that Killed Man on Bicycle

By Field Walsh | txktoday.com

Texarkana, Texas Police have arrested 24 year old Cole Arendt for Manslaughter.

Arendt was driving his Chevrolet Camaro on West 7th Street on August 30th, when he swerved to avoid a Dodge Ram truck that had turned left in front of him. After hitting the truck, Arendt’s car left the roadway and struck 20 year old Joshua Simpson, who was on his bicycle in the Roadrunner parking lot. The Camaro then continued forward and hit a Chevrolet Silverado, before finally coming to rest in the middle of the roadway.

Simpson was transported to Wadley Regional Medical Center with very serious injuries. Tragically, he died the next day.

Officer Darren Jones and our other traffic officers have spent the last month meticulously …

Day 21: Marfa TX to Marathon TX

Wednesday September 28, 2022 56 miles on 90 East with 40 mph headwinds. A long road that took me through Alpine. I stopped at gas station for a bottle of Starbucks coffee where I bumped into Sensei Allen Drift. These incidental meetings are what I hoped for during this journey.we had a good laugh comparing my homogenous Irish background to his blend of multiple nationalities. People are always in awe of the distances I bike and are so supportive. Part of our trip is to make people aware of the challenges facing MS patients. The headwinds made every downhill feel like …

Day 20: Van Horn TX to Marfa TX

Tuesday September 27, 2022 76 miles, high 80s, on an interminall uphill slope with strong headwinds. Sparse traffic was terrific. We passed through zero towns. At mile 40 sat a Prada store, an art installation, in the middle of nowhere. Provided a break from a seriously boring road. It’s like the scenery never changed. The highlight was a 2 mile long train with cargo containers which took forever to pass. Eventually got to Marfa. A cute town with a …
