About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

BCycle bike series to include historic Heights neighborhoods

Landan Kuhlmann | www.theleadernews.com

There are two bike rides coming up in the next few months in or near local neighborhoods that will give avid local bicyclists a chance to enjoy their pastime while exploring historic neighborhoods around Houston.

On June 25, Houston BCycle kicked off its Five for 10 Ride Series to celebrate the organization’s 10th anniversary, a bike series that will explore different neighborhoods and areas around Houston, according to a news release. The next two local rides that will involve neighborhoods in or near the Leader area over the next few months are Buffalo Bayou on either Aug. 13/14, as well as tour of the Heights on either Oct. 15/16 according to spokesperson Mary DeBauche.

There are currently more than …

Texas 4000 for Cancer to ride through Stevens Point on July 5

stevenspoint.news

AUSTIN, TX — The Texas 4000 for Cancer 2022 team of more than 45 students from The University of Texas at Austin will return to Alaska for the first time in three years as they pedal through 20 states throughout the U.S. and Canada. The group will pass through Stevens Point on July 5.

The team will ride more than 4,000 miles over the course of 70-days starting on June 3th with the mission of fighting cancer by sharing hope, knowledge, and charity in hundreds of communities along two routes — Sierra and Ozarks.

“With the significant drop in preventative cancer screenings seen since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Texas 4000 for Cancer is even more focused on spreading our cancer awareness and prevention message as the 2022 team rides across North America this summer,” said Scott Crews, Texas 4000 Executive Director. “While the team shares hope by …

Roll The Stone Away, It’s Independence Day

Brent Wells | strava.com

What a wonderful ride with a great group of guys and 3 very strong women on this Independence Day!???????? I was able to ride on a few roads that were unfamiliar, but that I had done prior to my accident like the famed Stoneleigh Climb. ???? I did happen to have a front flat on a brand new tire on Hwy 27. However, that turned out to be a good experience as everyone gathered around to help me change it. When I got my spare tube out, we found that it also wouldn’t hold any air! That was no problem though, because Bob Haak had a spare tube that he gladly gave me. Darren Kruse was an absolute engine who pulled us several times. As always, I continue to be amazed at how much God has blessed me, and I once again thank Him for allowing me to return to this sport that I love, and for yet another great ride with wonderful men and women!????

July 4th Patriotic Bike Ride to Jesse Jones Park

Texbiker.net Posted on July 4, 2022 by Rick AnkrumJuly 4, 2022

A special day for the United States, July 4th and I wore a patriotic jersey. I delayed the start of today’s bike ride until after I went to the Kingwood parade. Before going to the parade I had time to watch the Giro d’Italia Donne bike race. It was a great finish. Back home I got ready and rolled my Cervelo Caledonia away on the ride at 1:00 PM. By then the temperature was up to 93 but it wasn’t too bad as long as I was moving. I decided to ride to Jesse Jones Park using the Spring Creek Greenway. I thought the ride would be around 20 miles but I added some streets on the way to the trailhead and ended riding 29.02 miles. The last time I rode to Jesse Jones Park and not farther on the greenway was December 3rd, 2021 and since I’ve kept track of my rides I have rode to there 5 times, including today.

The Cervelo is getting close to 3,000 miles lacking 36 miles.

I didn’t see many people on the greenway and the parking lot at the park was almost empty. I guess people went other places for July 4th.

Weather conditions at the start and 3:25 PM finish: start 92 (humidity 46%, dew point 68), partly cloudy, wind S 5 mph; finish 87 (humidity 68%, dew point 76), mostly cloudy, wind S 9 mph gusts 17 mph. The wind gusts helped cool me some. A few clouds looked like they might have some rain and I think I felt a couple of drops but that’s all. The ice and water in my CamelBak refreshed me when I got dry.

The ride wasn’t a high energy one with the heat and short stretched of road to get up to speed. I never got my average speed above 13 mph. I did get a Strava PR on Woodland Hills TT (5:20) so there was some high energy there.

Harris County deputy under investigation after video shows constable ‘brake-checking’ a cyclist

St. John Barned-Smith | www.houstonchronicle.com

A Harris County Precinct 1 deputy constable is under investigation after an incident with cyclists earlier Thursday a few miles north of downtown.

The video, recorded Thursday, appears to show a deputy constable brake-checking a bicyclist that was part of a group riding in the Sunset Heights area, then veering in and out of traffic.

Constable Alan Rosen addressed the situation in a series of tweets.

The incident occurred about 10:15 p.m., he said, near North Main Street and Cavalcade. A citizen concerned about the deputy’s behavior first alerted Rosen to the video, he said. …

Sunday Afternoon Biking Kingwood Streets

Texbiker.net Posted on July 3, 2022 by Rick AnkrumJuly 3, 2022

I got home from church earlier than normal and started the bike ride at 12:27 PM. We had one combined worship service allowing me to get going before it got hotter. I rode my Lynskey Helix bike on Kingwood streets. For some variety I rode on streets in Fosters Mill rather than the greenbelt along Kingwood Drive. Some of the streets I don’t thing I ever biked and I passed two swimming pools that were new to me. I rode 20.01 miles closing out the week with 234.71 miles. This was the 6th week in a row at 200+ miles. A couple of days I worked around some rain. I rode both bikes with the Cervelo Caledonia at 4 times and the Lynskey 4 times.
