Today seemed like a good day to ride the Spring Creek Greenway. The weather cooperated and I started the ride early enough at 9:16 AM to finish by 1:21 PM. I rode my Cervelo Caledonia for 50.4 miles and saw a number of other cyclists, some I recorded in the video. The last time I biked the greenway all the way to the west end was August 23rd, 2021. In between then and today I rode on the greenway but not beyond John Pundt Park. I wondered if any construction happened at the west end and found no signs on today’s bike ride. My last bike ride over 50 miles was in Key Largo, FL on May 13th, 2022.
Numerous other cyclists were on the greenway, more than I saw my last ride on May 4th. Maybe Monday is a more active day.
On the way back I rode on the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway too. One of the cyclists that I saw on the Spring Creek Greenway was there too.
I don’t try to go very fast on the greenway because of other people and the many blind spot turns. I think an average speed of 13.2 mph to 14 mph is good. The AXS.SRAM.com ride report shows the overall moving time was 3:45:55. Of that time I rode 2:58:31 (40 miles) in the 35×15 gearing. I rode 25:13 (6.2 miles) using the 35×13 gearing and most of that was when I returned to Hamblen Road on the way back. A modest 13 RD shifts and no FD shifts. This ride report shows the mileage to be 50.7.
Weather conditions: start 82 (humidity 80%, dew point 76), mostly cloudy, wind S 8 mph gusts 20 mph; finish 90 (humidity 57%, dew point 73), mostly cloudy, wind S 13 mph gusts 22 mph. Getting to the trailhead the headwind was strong but once on the greenway the trees and terrain blunted it some.
Strava reported 6 top results for the ride. The first 4: PR on UMC Thwy (6:06), PR on Greenway Appendix (50s), PR on Soccer/Lacrosse Road to Crystal Springs (3:12), and 3rd fastest time on 99-45 North (11:37). I didn’t expect any of these.
