About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Another Adventure On The Atascocita Hike and Bike Trail

Texbiker.net Posted on June 13, 2024 by Rick AnkrumJune 13, 2024

Another adventure on the Atascocita Hike and Bike Trail but without the mud this time. As I was riding through Walden I turned right from Trophy Place Drive onto Falcon Crest Drive planning on taking the hike and bike trail to the left but instead I turned right taking the trail that I never rode before. I wasn’t sure where it went. The trail looped back to Falcon Crest Drive at Aerobic Drive. Crossing Falcon Crest Drive the ride continued on the trail to Trophy Place Drive where I entered another section I had not rode before. Going behind the Walden Golf Club maintenance area I came to Walden Forest Drive returning to streets I ride. I now know where the trail goes and will go there again.

The start wasn’t as early as yesterday rolling out at 9:49 AM on my Cervelo Caledonia bike. The plan was to ride the Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman route but I got off the route some as I recounted above. When I stay closer to the route the distance averages about 37.5 miles but today it was 38.84 miles when I finished at 12:53 PM.

Weather: Start 85 degrees, humidity 71%, dew point 75, cloud cover 36%, wind E 5 mph; Finish 89 degrees, humidity 67%, dew point 76, mostly cloudy, wind calm.

Tailwinds and Timeframes: A Quick Spin to 44% of the June Goal

Texbiker.net Posted on June 12, 2024 by Rick AnkrumJune 12, 2024

The trend of early starts continued. I rode north to Caney Creek and returned through Valley Ranch, Briar Tree, and Oakhurst. I rolled away at 8:50 AM on my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike and finished at 11:22 AM. That is early too before the weather had time to reach the high temperature. I tweaked the lead in for the Kingwood – FM1485 – Kingwood route but then stayed on the usual streets and roads. Wind was light from the east while I rode mostly to the north and south. I had a short time window to bike today prompting the early start. The average distance for this route is just over 32 miles and today I rode 32.54 miles. I’m now up to 403.75 miles for June, 44% of the way to the 908 mile goal.

Weather: Start 77 degrees, humidity 89%, dew point 73.3, a few clouds, wind NE 6 mph; @ New Caney 81 degrees, humidity 72%, dew point 71, a few clouds, wind E 8 mph; Finish 86 degrees, humidity 67%, dew point 74.4, partly cloudy, wind E 8 mph.
Start time 8:50 AM, finish time 11:22 AM.

Charity bicyclists pedal through Lake Tahoe

Katelyn Welsh | www.tahoedailytribune.com

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – With each pedal on a 4,000 mile ride, college student cyclists are raising awareness and money for cancer research. This week, they’re pedaling through South Lake Tahoe. Riding through the Sierra is just one of three routes. The Rockies and the Ozarks make up the other two in a mission to go from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska. The organization, called Texas 4000 for Cancer orchestrates the event. This marks their 20th annual ride.

Angel Pittman with the organization explains the ride is …
