Show the City Where You Want to See Walking and Biking Route Improvements with New Public Input Map

Launching today, the new ATX Walk Bike Roll Public Input Map enables Austin residents to show the City of Austin exactly where they’d like to see improvements made to Austin’s pedestrian and bicycle network. Austin Public Works and Austin Transportation are accepting feedback through the online tool now through March 6, 2022.

Using the mapping tool, residents can pinpoint where they’d like to see improved street crossings, new bikeway and urban trail routes, and where barriers need to be addressed. Residents who are unable to use the online mapping tool can request a physical feedback form by calling (512) 974-7182 or emailing ATXWalkBikeRoll@AustinTexas.gov

This geographic input will be used to update and improve Austin’s Urban Trails, Bikeways, and Sidewalk Plans through …

Strong Wind, Dog Chase But I Survived The Bike Ride

According to the weather forecast today (Tuesday) and tomorrow are the only days that will be above 60 degrees until next week. I’m behind on the miles to reach my goal for January so I got dressed and rode my Lynskey R300 for 38.18 miles on the “New Caney – Gene Campbell Road” route. I plan on riding tomorrow too. I rolled away at 11:24 AM and finished at 2:28 PM. In between I enjoyed a nice tailwind on the way to new Caney and fought a strong headwind when I reached FM 1314 and most of the way back to Kingwood. The wind increased during the ride just to make it harder.

I didn’t realize it had been almost two months since my last ride on this route. That was November 24th, 2021. I rode the Lynskey R300 on that ride too.

The two dogs at Rock Creek and Northpark Drive were waiting for me when I arrived. I talk about my encounter with them in the video.

Weather conditions for the bike ride: start 71 (humidity 57%, dew point 39), mostly cloudy, wind S 14 mph; finish 71 (humidity 58%, dew point 55), mostly cloudy, wind S 17 mph gusts 25 mph.

Volunteers will be added to the front gate list and have their land use and camping fees waived.

  1. Camping – there will be plenty of space to put up a tent in the camping area if you would like to camp out. There is a shower facility that volunteers will have access to.

  2. Parking – Park at the volunteer shed or in the general parking areas. If you are camping, you can drive in and park next to your campsite.

Stage 3 Tour de Zwift, NYC Central Park The 6 Train

The Tour de Zwift Stage 3 went live sooner than I expected. The Group C ride was not long enough so I signed up for the Group B ride on the Central Park The 6 Train course in New York City. As the clocked ticked down to the 11 AM start 1398 riders showed on the information board. I wasn’t expecting to stay near the front with the flyers. The ride was 4 laps totaling 16.37 miles and 915 feet of climbing. At the start I was in the 1090 to 1098 group but after a lap or so I fell back to 1150 to 1160 and at the finish I was 1172 out 1399.

When I looked at the route on ZwiftInsider.com it showed 200 feet of climbing per lap and I exceeded that. Most of the climbing was in the 5% to 7% range but one climb hit 11% on the first lap but the other three laps the max I saw was 10%. Not sure where that 1% went but I didn’t miss it. I rode the 10% climb sitting down for 3 laps but stood up on the last lap. That improved my position about 3 or 4 places.

Checking Zwiftpower.com I was 643 out of 692 Group B riders. Group A had 1592 riders, Group C had 642 cyclists, and Group D (women only) 63 for a total of 2,940.

A number of years ago my son-in-law and I rented clunker bikes in Central Park and rode a couple of laps. I’m not sure if we rode the same roads though.

Two personal records in Strava: PR on The 6 Train (11:39) and 3rd fastest time on The 6 Train (12:16). I previously rode this route on 2/3/2021 but only 3 laps.
