About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Zwift – Neokyo Makuri Islands Sleepless City TFC Group Ride (D)

Texbiker.net Posted on January 16, 2022 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 16, 2022

After church I looked at the upcoming Zwift events and found the TFC Group Ride on Neokyo Makuri Islands Sleepless City route. It started at 2:17 PM which gave time to get everything ready and eat a snack. I rode in Group D which was supposed to average 1.7 – 2.0 w/kg but it didn’t take long for them to leave me behind even though there was a fence. I don’t remember how long I stayed with someone but it wasn’t too long.

Outside it was 55 degrees so riding Zwift was my only option. The wind let up from yesterday’s 30+ mph gusts but it still felt chilly as I walked from the garage to the house.

This was my second ride on the Sleepless City route, the previous was 12/19/2021. That ride I was faster and went slightly more miles. It is a flat ride climbing 420 feet over 18.17 miles today. The route was 3 laps on the route plus a .1 mile lead-in. My year to date Zwift miles total 154.3 miles, 19% of my 800 mile goal for the year. With cold weather over the next week there will more Zwift rides though Tuesday and Wednesday are potential road ride days.

Video: Mobberly Avenue gets temporary bike lanes

By Jamey Boyum | www.kltv.com

LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) – Although Longview’s Mobberly Complete Street Project is over a year from starting construction, residents can get a taste of it right now and give some feedback.

The outside temperature was perfect for taking a brisk bike ride. With the wind it was indeed brisk. However, the Mobberly complete street mock-up was in place, and Longview Spokesman Shawn Hara said he hopes people use it.

“For two weeks, we will be setting up on Mobberly kind of a sample to show you what this could look like. It’s not going to be exactly like this because we’re going to do this with cones and some recycled Christmas trees, so we can kind of show some of the landscaping to give you …

Tour de Zwift Stage 2: London Loop. Some Climbing.

Texbiker.net Posted on January 15, 2022 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 15, 2022

Today was way too windy and chilly (46 degrees) to ride outside. A perfect day to ride the Tour de Zwift. Stage 2 was live and I joined Group C for the 10 AM start. About 900 other riders were in the start pen as the countdown ended. The course was the London Loop, one of several with “Loop” in the name. Today we went up Box Hill which accounted for most of the 682 feet of climbing, though I was expecting 752 feet according to the Zwift companion app. I didn’t miss not riding those extra 70 feet up. The distance came in at 9.73 miles but the official length was 9.5 miles. I think the extra came from my pedaling after the finish.

Until we reached Box Hill I hovered around position 504 but once we started up I dropped to 590 or so.

Strava says I recorded 2nd fastest time on Northumberland Ave Climb (51s). This is the first time I rode this course though I have been on portions of it before.

It’s good that I started Zwift early because the update took several minutes. Zwift Launcher is now at version 1.1.1 which means the updates from this week may start showing up. One I am looking forward to is club events. Maybe a Texbiker Club?

According to Zwiftpower.com I finished 316 out 400 registered Zwifters for Group C. Group A had 3 riders, Group B 502 riders, and Group D 23 riders. A total of 928 registered at Zwiftpower.com in the event.
