About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Zwift Ride On Watopia Out and Back Again Route

Texbiker.net Posted on November 27, 2021 by Rick AnkrumNovember 27, 2021

Scrolling through the Watopia routes in Zwift I found the Out and Back Again route without a green checkmark. The miles and climbing were a significant increase over yesterday’s ride but I decided to tackle it. I tried to find a ride to join but none appealed to me. I want to ride on the new Neokyo routes and I think the only way I can do that is on a scheduled event. According to Strava I rode 26.79 miles and climbed 1,096 feet. Some of the climbs hit 10%. I tried standing to pedal but my rear tire slipped against the Kickr Snap roller. I changed the mat under my Blue Norcross AL bike before the ride. When I put the bike back on the Kickr I didn’t tighten the resistance enough. I didn’t want to stop to fix that. No support crew in Zwift.

Outside it was 55 degrees when I started the ride at 11:47 AM, below my 60 degree threshold. It was supposed to rain but I don’t think it did.

Zwiftinsider.com describes the route as ““Out and Back Again” is a route which is quite flat… until it isn’t. Released as part of Zwift’s Fuego Flats desert expansion, this oddly-named route isn’t an out and back at all, but rather two loops connected in a figure 8-style course.”

Four personal records in Strava.

Neighbor follows suspect’s tracks to recover woman’s stolen bike in Galveston

abc13.com

GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) — When a Galveston woman thought her new bike was gone for good, a resident in her neighborhood stepped in to help in ways she never imagined.

Early Wednesday, Kat Pallock received a video of someone looking through her carport. Moments later, that suspect was seen riding off with her new bicycle.

"I was pissed," Pallock told ABC13. "We’ve only had it for a week. I think the guy who took it probably put more …

At 96, World War II veteran rides bike down memory lane

Josh Edwards | www.expressnews.com

NACOGDOCHES — Floyd Brantley can still ride circles around cyclists half his age.

On a blustery Friday afternoon, the 96-year-old World War II and Korean War veteran pedaled his bike though his childhood neighborhood, reminiscing about life in Nacogdoches during the 1930s before war took him away from East Texas for the first time and his career landed him in Arkansas.

Brantley had taken the route along Mound Street hundreds if not thousands …

Houston’s new bus lanes will allow bikes, but advocates urge caution

Jay R. Jordan | www.chron.com

Downtown Houston’s new and upcoming bus-only lanes are a lesson for cyclists: Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

Bright-red paint will designate these new lanes along Travis and Milam streets. Bicycles will be allowed in these lanes, mixing traffic alongside buses and turning vehicles, but the design is far from perfect for cyclists, according to Houston transportation advocates.

"The lanes are a signal that Houston is becoming a more multimodal city, and that’s a good thing," BikeHouston executive director Joe Cutrufo said Wednesday. "But …

Return to Zwift On The Watopia Figure 8 Reverse

Texbiker.net Posted on November 26, 2021 by Rick AnkrumNovember 26, 2021

Time to activate Zwift for the cold weather today. It was 55 degrees outside which is below my 60 degree threshold. I put the road ride on hold today. I thought I would have access to the new Zwift routes but I must not be on the necessary level. Scrolling through the Watopia routes some had a green check mark and some didn’t. I thought the ones not checked meant I haven’t rode them but that may be wrong. I chose the Figure 8 Reverse because it didn’t have a check mark, the climbing was not too much at 833 feet, and the distance was 18.5 miles. I wanted to get used to the changes in Zwift since my last ride in March.

According to Zwiftinsider.com the Figure 8 Reverse route, “Watopia’s “Figure 8” route covers the entire hilly and flat routes in both directions. If you’re looking for a ride around an hour long that includes some short climbs and a nice mix of flats and rollers, this is a solid choice. The reverse Figure 8 route is popular with racers since it doesn’t start with a tough climb out of the box, and has a nice mix of punchy climbs, flats, and rollers to keep the race interesting by allowing for strategic attacks from a variety of riders.”
