About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

TxDOT’s I-35 at Posey Road project completed near San Marcos outlets

Author: Jeff Bell | www.kvue.com

SAN MARCOS, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) marked the completion of its Interstate 35 at Posey Road project, near the San Marcos outlets, on Tuesday.

The $31.7 million project reconfigured the I-35 lanes over Posey Road, added U-turn lanes in each direction and turn lanes at the northbound and southbound I-35 frontage road, reversed six entrance and exit ramps and enhanced pedestrian and cycling paths throughout the corridor.

Construction on the project began in early 2019. TxDOT demolished the previous Posey Road bridge in …

Flower Mound teen collecting bikes to donate to foster homes

By Mark Smith | www.crosstimbersgazette.com

A Flower Mound teenager is seeking donations of new and gently used bicycles to donate to kids in foster homes for Christmas.

Rohan Ahuja, a junior at Flower Mound High School, has launched a bike drive with Chosen Ones Foster & Adoptive Family Support, a Fort Worth-based nonprofit. Last year, Rohan’s uncle started a similar bike drive in Corpus Christi, and it impressed and motivated Rohan to start his own.

“He wants to do this drive every year going forwards,” said his father, Pankaj Ahuja.

Rohan has collected …

Dallas is getting serious about being a biking city

www.dallasnews.com

Tucked into a stack of recent memos at Dallas City Hall was one that made us smile.

In its best bureaucrat-ese, the memo explained that “[g]iven the importance placed on multi-modal transportation, the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 adopted budget includes $2 million for the bike lane program.”

There is a lot in that sentence to celebrate, and much more in the information that follows. First is the statement that Dallas actually does place importance on “multi-modal transportation” — that is, getting around in some way that doesn’t mean getting in the car.

We have been talking about that for a long time. The city’s original bike plan dates to 1985. Its update dates to …

Cold Weather Bike Riding Tips: Don’t Be Silly With the Chilly

A Dude Abikes | adudeabikes.com

It’s been almost a year since my post The Winter of Our Discontent; Cool Bikings. There were some good ideas in there (of course) but not quite enough tips. And since we’ve had a few low temperatures approaching 40 F, which is the high in some places, I figure it’s time to stop turning a cold shoulder to this topic. I shouldn’t complain; 40 F is warm for many people in northern climes. WINTER IS COMING, so I’m trying to acclimate, that way I won’t be overdressed when the temperature does plummet.

Weather can be deceptive; warm in the sun and cold in the shade. I titled today’s ride on Strava as “Shirt Sleeves Short Pants Saturday.” Usually I see people dressed as I was, but people were wearing long sleeves, long pants, and …

Austin to begin work on Slaughter Lane bike, pedestrian improvements

By Benton Graham | communityimpact.com

The city of Austin’s Corridor Program Office is set to begin construction on protected bike paths and sidewalks that extend along Slaughter Lane from Menchaca Road to South First Street the week of Nov. 15.

The construction will separate car traffic from bike lanes and upgrade the sidewalks to be Americans with Disabilities Act compliant. The current bike lanes are unprotected, said Kelly Buethe, a senior public information specialist with the corridor program office.

“Separated facilities decrease the likelihood of collisions between cars, bikes and …

Friday November 12, 2021, 82 miles (132 km) – Total so far: 1,956 miles (3,148 km) I didn’t intend on riding this much but I made a wrong turn leaving Coldspring. It must be at least two miles before I realized I was on the wrong way and turned back. Another 3-4 miles were added because the hotel didn’t enter the right address. Instead of business 96, I was sent to highway 96. Apparently many people went to the wrong location.

I was bitten by fire ants. This painful experience happened because I was investigating something hit my fender and accidentally I stepped on its mound. I did get bitten before so I took it seriously. …
