About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Stretching: Spring Creek Greenway – City Place – San Jacinto Bayou Greenway

Texbiker.net Posted on May 27, 2024 by Rick AnkrumMay 27, 2024

After almost 2 years since my last bike ride on the Spring Creek Greenway to I-45 and hearing that it extended to Exxon Mobil in Springwoods I figured to see for myself on Memorial Day. The Giro d’Italia was over letting me start early. I rolled away on my Canyon Endurace CF 7 at 9:22 AM (not as early as I wanted). The June 6th, 2022 ride was 50.41 miles long. With the added destination today I left off some of the streets because I wasn’t sure what the total mileage would be. Also I would skip the side streets at Carter Park trailhead and John Pundt Park. When I arrived at the US59 trailhead several cyclists and cars with racks were around.

The recent rains and flooding was evident in places on the greenway. The greenway leaving John Pundt Park back to US59 was blocked but there was another way to get around it. Cyclists were out in force. My video probably captures a tenth of them. I’m thinking part of increased cyclists came from the Springwoods connection since I saw a number riding in that area. I rode around City Place where some stores and a hotel were at before heading back. I looked for a convenience store to buy a drink but only saw Starbucks. Fortunately I had my CamelBak for hydration but with the heat I wanted to conserve water for the ride back to the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway and Kingwood. The ride distance came in at 51.45 miles when I finished at 1:56 PM. Strava results: (3 of the 6 medals) PR on Check your MPH & duck under the RR track! (3:11), PR on This Part (4:49), and 3rd fastest time on 45 to DJ (12:22). Link to the AXS.SRAM.com ride report. A number of cyclists rode MTB’s, maybe I should ride my Trek Marlin 8 MTB there. I saw one single speed with gold rims, maybe 2 e-bikes, and 2 electric skateboards.

Trek Marlin 8 MTB Comfort Ride. May’s Goal Achieved.

Texbiker.net Posted on May 26, 2024 by Rick AnkrumMay 26, 2024

Today I rode my Trek Marlin 8 MTB on the Kingwood trails and a few streets. I want to get comfortable riding the Trek since this was only my third ride on it. The week was 200+ miles and with only 7 miles to reach May’s 749 mile goal seemed like a good time to ride the Trek. I rode by several village pools and all were open with people enjoying them. Riding 14.45 miles put me over my goal with several days to spare.

Weather: Start 89 degrees, humidity 72%, dew point 79.2, cloud cover 35%, wind S 10 mph gusts 14 mph; Finish 91 degrees, humidity 69%, dew point 79.2, cloud cover 35%, wind S 13 mph gusts 17 mph.

Cyclists want a trail connection along Texas 6 at Barker Reservoir, if they can find the funds for it

By Dug Begley | www.houstonchronicle.com

Bicycling at the intersection of Texas 6 and Briar Forest Drive is an uphill battle in more ways than one, and it’s something Bryan Dotson and Gregg Nady have spent years trying to solve.

Now their idea – a long-sought link – potentially opens up some 55 miles of safe biking routes along Buffalo and Brays Bayous by making a key highway crossing along a dangerous stretch of Texas 6.

They’re just about 1.2 miles and …

Reward offered after 6 burglaries at Mellow Johnny’s bike shop

Author: Adam Bennett | www.kvue.com

A private investigator says more than $100,000 in goods, including an electric bike belonging to Lance Armstrong, was stolen.

AUSTIN, Texas — A well-known Austin bike shop is offering a reward to catch the people behind six burglaries that have occurred over the last six months.

Investigators say thieves stole more than $100,000 worth of goods from Mellow Johnny’s, including a bike owned by Lance Armstrong.

An employee referred KVUE to Dave Amis, a private investigator and owner of StriderPI.com.

“There appears to be no stop, no end in sight,” said Amis. …

Another amazing ride with a fairly large group of great people. There were a couple of new faces (to me), and Val Mcleod and Bobby Arugula were both very strong! As always, I am thankful to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for saving me both spiritually, and physically enabling me to return to this sport that I love. I’m thankful for another safe ride with a bunch of great Christian, cycling, friends, and of course, without any mechanicals or flats.

Got a Metric before it got to hot! Humid but cloudy so not terrible. Overall a BROTY. Kerr County, Texas
