About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

No Wet Streets For A Change: New Caney – Roman Forest Blvd – Oakhurst Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on May 26, 2021 by Rick AnkrumMay 26, 2021

No wet streets on today’s bike ride but the sky still had some dark clouds hanging around. I rolled out on the bike ride at 10:51 AM heading north on my “New Caney – Roman Forest Blvd – Oakhurst” route. I needed to ride at least 21 miles to reach my 660 mile goal for May. I accomplished that biking 33.7 miles and May now totals 673.69 miles. The last 10 days or so has been challenging getting to that goal with all of the rain. 2021 YTD miles trails 2020 by 159, about the same as yesterday.

Today’s bike ride weather conditions: start 81 (78% humidity, 73.4 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 7 mph; finish 84 (73% humidity, 74.4 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 7 mph. The humidity and dew point make for a sticky ride. Sometimes it felt like swimming.

I altered the starting 4 to 5 miles of the ride and reminded myself why I don’t ride that direction. I waited for the traffic light at Hidden Pines Drive and Northpark Drive several cycles for a green light and finally when the traffic was gone I rode across Northpark. The sensors cannot detect a bike, especially a carbon fiber one. I rode my Canyon Endurace CF SLX bike today.

The bike ride ended at 1:40 PM with mixed sky. To the south dark clouds hung while to the north some blue sky showed through.

Ted King back from surgery for Gravel Locos and Unbound Gravel on horizon

By Daniel Benson | www.cyclingnews.com

American rider building up for Unbound Gravel in June Three weeks ago Ted King crashed and broke his collarbone while riding in California and it looked as though the gravel racer and former WorldTour rider would be forced to dial back his schedule, but the American is back and heading towards Unbound Gravel with new-found confidence.

King was unsure whether to race last weekend’s epic 155-mile Gravel Locos in Hico, Texas, but the 38-year-old made the journey from Vermont and finished sixth in grueling, wet conditions behind winner Laurens ten Dam.

“All things considered it went really well. I’m about …

Missed The Rain But Not Wet Streets

Texbiker.net Posted on May 25, 2021 by Rick AnkrumMay 25, 2021

Starting today’s bike ride at 10:53 AM was a good thing. If I waited later I probably would’ve been delayed by rain at my home. Or when I finished. While I biked to the south and east on my “Kingwood to Ramsey Road – Huffman” route it rained behind me. I rode my Lynskey R300 bike covering 38.56 miles. This was my first bike ride since Saturday. Sunday intermittent light rain after I got home from church kept me indoors where I caught up on a number of bike races on GCN+. Yesterday I wanted to go for a ride but after finishing breakfast radar showed heavy rain approaching. It ended up raining 3.58″ according to my home weather station.

Surprisingly missing biking those days didn’t put me further behind 2020 YTD miles. After today’s bike ride I trail 2020 by 158 miles, a few less than before. 2021 stands at 3,617 miles.

Biking east the sky looked better than behind as you can see in the video. At the start a light drizzle fell for a couple of miles. Later as I rode west over Lake Houston the drizzle reappeared. On the west side of the lake the streets were wet but no rain fell as I rode back to Kingwood. Good timing to avoid riding in the rain but my Lynskey R300 got plenty of grit and a wash after I finished at 2:03 PM.

Photos at the bridge on Ramsey Road. The drainage ditch water behind the bike usually is lower but with all of the rain it’s moving water away.

  • 5-25-2021 Bike Ride Lynskey R300 Ramsey Road-1
  • 5-25-2021 Bike Ride Lynskey R300 Ramsey Road-2

Wind posed a problem on the way to Ramsey Road. My legs struggled pedaling into the headwind. After a short stop at the bridge on Ramsey Road I turned around and headed back. The sky looked threatening to the west but no rain. Weather conditions: start 80 (81% humidity, 73.8 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SE 13 mph; finish 79 (89% humidity, 75.4 dew point), overcast, wind E 9 mph.

The bike ride back to Kingwood had a tailwind most of the time helping my legs.

Bike Riding With The Fishing Lady Of Sikes Lake

Durango Texas | durangotexas.blogspot.com

The weather has been a bit inclement of late, so I have not been getting my regular dose of endorphins via aerobic activity.

The 4th Monday of the 2021 version of May is also a bit inclement, with a threatening sky, and predictions of downpours and thunder.

Feeling stir crazy, today I decided to brave the elements to go on a bike ride.

I ended up having myself a mighty fine time rolling my wheels north on the Circle Trail, then through the Wichita Falls version of Beverly Hills, passing through the virtually empty Midwestern State University campus before crossing Midwestern Boulevard to …

Permian Basin Ride of Silence set for Tuesday

MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) – The Permian Basin Ride of Silence was postponed due to severe weather, but riders still gathered to honor cyclists killed while riding.

Three years ago, Jason Haislip was cycling with his two friends – Camron Stotts and Mike Mestas – when a drunk driver hit them.

Stotts and Mestas died as a result of the collision, and Haislip was severely injured.

Haislip says he participates in the Ride of Silence because he wants people to be aware of the dangers cyclists face on the road.

“Ever since we were run over, it definitely has …
