About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

All Sikes Lake Goslings On Display Today With Pink Evening Primroses

Durango Texas | durangotexas.blogspot.com

On this 3rd Saturday of the 2021 version of May I rolled my bike north on the Circle Trail for a few miles, with a windy assist from the south speeding me along effortlessly. Eventually I tired of the easy sailing, so I exited the Circle Trail to head west to Sikes Lake.

Whilst in the outer world today the temperature was nearing 80, with that aforementioned wind blowing in clouds which later today are scheduled to produce booming thunder and possible big balls of hail.

My past couple rides around Sikes Lake I have not seen that big throng of …

We just had our garage broken into and our 2020 Borealis Flume Fat Bikes were taken, one medium and one small. They are both black with green logos, 27.5×3.8 tires, manitou mastodon forks and one of the bikes had a black and green SDG Allure seat. We are offering a reward for any info leading to the return. of the bikes. These are likely the only Borealis Flumes in town as they are not common in Austin. If you see them …

Kingwood Streets Bike Ride Makes 200 Mile Week

Texbiker.net Posted on May 15, 2021 by Rick AnkrumMay 15, 2021

Very late start on today’s bike ride at 3:55 PM. The delay was from electrical work on my house. An electrician replaced the main FPE panel and added a generator inlet plug. I want to be prepared for hurricane season starting in a couple of weeks. After the work I planned on riding then changed my mind due to the time. But after looking at the weather forecast for Sunday and the chance of rain I decided to go biking. I needed 15 miles to reach 200 miles for the week and I didn’t want to miss it if it rained tomorrow and I could’ve rode today.

The route was “Kingwood Streets” for 19.07 miles. This moved the week’s total to 204.36 miles. And if it doesn’t rain tomorrow I will add to the week. I closed the gap between 2021 and 2020 to 44 miles. Surprising with a shorter ride than usual.

No video today.

I rode my Lynskey R300 today. After yesterday’s bike ride I fixed the front flat tire on the Lynskey. It turned out to be a tiny hole at the base of the valve stem, an area I was not able to patch. I replaced the tube and the front tire was solid on the ride today.

Weather conditions: start 80 (62% humidity, 65.5 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SE 15 mph; finish 78 (67% humidity, 66 dew point), overcast, wind S 16 mph. The strong wind made pedaling into it difficult.

Project to link trails along Sims Bayou will lift community, officials say

Dug Begley | www.houstonchronicle.com

In Houston, where some commutes are measured in podcasts instead of minutes, one mile may not seem like much. Along Sims Bayou near Interstate 45, however, officials see it as a huge leap.

Work started recently on a 1.1 mile segment of trail tying together pieces from Milby Park to Glenbrook Park in the Park Place neighborhood to a bayou trail along Sims from I-45 to Reveille Park.

“Our challenge is, we have got to connect these bayous, and the trails along these bayous for the …

City of Tyler implements five-year improvement schedule to parks, recreation plan

By Zak Wellerman | tylerpaper.com

After making more progress on city parks than expected, the Tyler City Council on Wednesday approved a five-year improvement schedule addition to the parks master plan to address several projects spanning through 2025.

Leanne Robinette, manager of parks, recreation and tourism, said the city’s Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces Master Plan was adopted in 2019 and focuses on the years of 2020 to 2030.

The addition of the five-year schedule was made due to more progress being made than what was originally anticipated.

“We have made so much more progress than we ever hoped for in the last few years,” she said. …

… The 2022 and 2023 plans include renovations to P.T. Cole Park, general infrastructure updates to Golden Road Park, stabilizing the creek at Rose Rudman Park, improving the drainage at Lindsey Park and adding a Children’s Bike Park with matching funds from the Tyler Bicycle Club, according to the city of Tyler. …

Fredericksburg – Johnson City: Longhorns and LBJ

Friday May 14, 2021, 39 miles (63 km) – Total so far: 848 miles (1,365 km) A short day and a long ride around Lyndon Johnson’s LBJ Ranch. The Hill Country is really pretty gorgeous, with the Pedernales River winding through it. Robert Caro’s first volume of his LBJ biography does a great job of capturing the land and showing how it influenced the man. But first, of course, cows, and not just any cows. I had a staring match with some longhorns, and fortunately they did not try to hook ‘em. …

Flat Changed My Bike, Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on May 14, 2021 by Rick AnkrumMay 14, 2021

I planned on riding the Lynskey R300 on today’s bike ride but after snapping in the Bolt computer I noticed the front tire was flat. Not wanting to delay the start of the ride I switched to the Canyon Endurace CF SLX. Nice to have that option. The ride began at 11:32 AM and ended at 2:19 PM. The route I chose headed north and turn back to the south at SH 242. I call this the “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” route. This was the 4th time biking this route in 2021, twice on each bike.

The ride covered 36.27 miles, putting the week at 185.29 miles. Within striking distance of a 200+ mile week if the weather cooperates. Saturday biking will be different due to an electrician coming early. Not sure how long the work will take.

Today’s weather: start 76 (52% humidity, 57 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind ENE 7 mph; finish 80 (50% humidity, 59.4 dew point), partly cloudy, wind E 6 mph. The wind still has a chill to it when I rode in the shade from the Tuesday night front. I wore shorts, a long sleeve jersey, and a short sleeve jersey. Humidity and dew points are lower than usual for Houston.

Wildflowers continue to bloom along the roads. The mowers will begin later this month.
