About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Stage 2 of Giro d’Italia Delays Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on May 9, 2021 by Rick AnkrumMay 9, 2021

I needed to bike at least 4 miles to make this week a 200+ mile week. After getting home from church I decided to watch the end of Stage 2 of the Giro d’Italia and Stage 5 of Volta ao Algarve before starting today’s bike ride. This meant not beginning until 2:38 PM so I changed the route I thought of riding and rode on “Kingwood Streets”. I biked more than those 4 miles covering 22.12 miles. The week totaled 219.93 miles, the 9th week this year of 200+ miles. Year to date I am at 3,254 miles. I still trail 2020 by 85 miles. I finished the bike ride at 4:23 PM.

For a change I didn’t get lost riding through Royal Brook though I did ride past where I was supposed to turn onto Royal Brook Manor. But I realized my error and backtracked to the turn.

The odometer for my Lynskey R300 turned to 4,016 miles.

A summary of this week’s bike rides. I rode 6 days out of 7 due to rain on Tuesday. The average ride was 36.65 miles long. I drove to Coldspring for the longest ride of the week.

Strava recorded 4 medals though only 3 show in the image below.

Kermit – Midland, and Rest Day: The wind, changes

Thursday May 6, 2021, 61 miles (98 km) – Total so far: 522 miles (840 km) Today was looking ominous early. I had a long day ahead, so I was on the road by first light. Usually weather comes up in the afternoon. Today I was looking at a stinking headwind right from the start. Since I was averaging 7 mph down in the drops, it wasn’t at all clear if I would make it to Midland tonight. Along with a stiff climb, I would find myself in a 30-mile construction zone and would spend most of the morning on the inside of the cones. …

Bike Riding With Dozens Of Goslings In Sikes Lake

Durango Texas | durangotexas.blogspot.com

Rolled my bike to Sikes Lake this second Saturday of the 2021 version of May. A couple days ago I was at this location and saw a few dozen goslings being herded across the paved trail, heading to the lake. Walkers and bikers stopped to watch and not interrupt the passage.

Swim Meets, 23 mph Gusts, Atascocita – FM 2100 – Walden Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on May 8, 2021 by Rick AnkrumMay 8, 2021

I watched the Giro d’ Italia Prologue for about 2 hours and then got ready for today’s bike ride. By then the temperature was in the upper 70’s letting me leave the long sleeve jersey at home. I’ll finish the Prologue after today’s bike Ride.

Wheels down and rolling at 9:12 AM as the Canyon Endurace CF SLX bike and I rode off following the “Atascocita – FM 2100 – Walden” route. I rode the longer lead out to begin the ride pushing the ride to 33.13 miles, a couple miles longer than usual. This increased the week’s total to 197.81 miles and May to 255.11 miles. I should ride tomorrow to make it a 200 mile week. I finished the ride at 11:54 AM.

One of the things I look forward to on Saturday is seeing other cyclists. I saw several as you can see in the video. I might’ve seen more if I started earlier. Maybe next Saturday.

Weather: start 77 (79% humidity, 70 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SE 7 mph; finish 83 (64% humidity, 69.3 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 10 mph gusts 23 mph. I knew the wind had strengthened when I rode east over Lake Houston and south on Fairlake Lane as the Canyon bike moved with the gusts.
