About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Bike Touring The North East Texas Trail

Adventure Time With Bane | www.youtube.com

The Northeast Texas Trail is a planned 130±mile multi-use trail along the route, following alongside U.S. Highway 82 and Texas State Highway 34.

I was in Dallas for my sons VEX robotic competition so I decided to ride the NETT end to end while in the area. I had my mind made up before realizing the trail isn’t finished.

I hit the trail minutes after a severe storm passed and on the first day the threat of tornadoes and rain continued.

This is Mile 1 through 60 of what I was able to ride of the trail, unfortunately it turned in to a pavement tour pretty quickly.

Single mother’s bike accident highlights need for safety features in Victoria

Kyle R. Cotton | www.victoriaadvocate.com

Jessica Vasquez rode her electric bike evening to her job as a baker to provide for her children as a single mother of four. However, an accident on North Ben Jordan Street has left her physically unable to work for over a month.

Her experience highlights a need for enhanced pedestrian infrastructure within Victoria, which may come in the near future. Some experts believe the city is going in the right direction.

“We need bike lanes,” said Vasquez, 43, of Victoria. “Not everyone has a vehicle.”

Vasquez lives at the …

These Could Be the Worst Bike Lanes in the United States Right Now

by: Ron Johnson | momentummag.com

Listen, it’s dangerous out there at the best of times especially given the examples of the most dangerous and worst bike lanes to follow. Protected bike lanes are essential, but these account for just a fraction of what’s out there right now. Most are still of the paint on asphalt variety or worse.

For those who love cycling, having safe and well-designed bike lanes is a game-changer. These lanes give cyclists their own space, keeping them safe and making the roads more peaceful for everyone. Plus, they’re a big reason why more people are choosing to bike instead of drive, which is a win-win for the environment and our health.

But not all bike lanes are created equal. Some are …

… Austin, Texas should know better

In Austin, Texas, cyclists contend with a hazardous bike lane stemming from a highway ramp, highlighting the consequences of poorly designed infrastructure. Check out the photo below, and tell me this is anything but life-threatening. Shockingly, someone designed this.

Kalaba was a Serbian champ before coming to MSU

Andy Newberry | news.msutexas.edu

Dušan Kalaba was an accomplished cyclist long before he came to Midwestern State University to further his education and cycling.

But that doesn’t mean that winning a college race isn’t a big deal to the sophomore from Serbia.

Kalaba won the National Road Championships back in 2017, four years after he’d taken second in the National Road Championships in Serbia. He won …

SH242 Construction Status. Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood Ride North

Texbiker.net Posted on May 1, 2024 by Rick AnkrumMay 1, 2024

April is in the rear view mirror and May is the focus now. I rode north on the Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood route for the first time since March 13, 2024. Since my last visit the construction at SH242 looks finished as far as I could see west from US59. I will explore this more on the next ride that direction. My goal for May is 749 miles or about 25 miles each day. I’m off to a good start riding 37.68 miles today. I saw another cyclist near the end of the ride on Tree Lane by Bear Branch Elementary School. I started at 11:11 AM and finished at 2:09 PM. Weather: Start 80 degrees, humidity 78%, dew point 72.5, 78% cloud cover, wind SE 9 mph gusts 13 mph; Finish 84 degrees, humidity 73%, dew point 74.7, 73% cloud cover, wind SE 14 mph gusts 19 mph. A headwind biking back to Kingwood made for hard pedaling at times. My legs powered through that. Link to the AXS.SRAM.com ride report.
