About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Bike shop smash-and-grab involving a U-Haul destroys storefront

By Courtney Fischer | abc13.com

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Police are investigating what they said was a smash-and-grab involving a U-Haul outside a bike shop in north Houston.

Along with many other independent, small businesses, bike owners said criminals want to get their hands on expensive equipment, especially during the holiday season.

Around 1:15 a.m., police arrived to the store after an alarm was triggered. Investigators are not sure how many bikes were stolen, or if the suspects got away with …

Still Not Able To Stay With the Group Riding Zwift Watopia

Texbiker.net Posted on December 4, 2020 by Rick AnkrumDecember 4, 2020

Fourth day in a row biking in Zwift Land. Maybe the weather will warm up enough for me to ride outside but the forecast doesn’t give much hope for several days. I edited the livestream video taking out some of the ride when I was alone. For those who want to watch the full length video it is at the bottom of the post.

My Blue Norcross AL bike is bearing the brunt of biking indoors on my Wahoo Snap smart trainer. The odometer shows 2,516 miles with maybe half of those miles on Zwift rides.

In search of a ride that I might stay with the group for more than a few seconds I joined the ZZRC Sub 2.0 Group D. The ride lasted 60 minutes for whatever distance and I biked 15.76 miles. Well I stayed with the group for maybe 2 minutes and then they were gone. 334 people registered for the start but I don’t know how many were actually on the ride. Supposedly everyone averaged 1.7 – 2.0 W/KG and there was a fence. Most of the ride I came in below the 1.7 mark but going up the climbs I was above 2.0. According to Golden Cheetah ride summary data my average power was 89 watts or 1.25 W/KG. Apparently I need to work harder. In the spring I stayed with the group and rode at the front many times, even crashing the fence. Either I am slower or the group is much better. Maybe some of each.

  • 12-4-2020 Zwift Bike Ride-2

I’m making progress on my goal for Zwift miles. Beginning December I needed 258 miles to reach my goal and after today’s ride I am at 56.36 miles, 202 miles to go.

Only one personal record today according to Strava. 2nd fastest time on 10 Minute Effort (16:44).

Zwift – Shimano Social Ride in Watopia

Texbiker.net Posted on December 3, 2020 by Rick AnkrumDecember 3, 2020

I tried another social ride in Zwift today, the Shimano Social Ride. The ride was classed “E” and followed the “Watopia Figure 8 Reverse Course”. Rather than distance the ride was time base for 60 minutes. I biked 12.88 miles in 59:59. The course went up some serious inclines of 12% but not long lasting. Again I rode alone except for the starting few seconds and when cyclists passed me. Ride description and my standing at the end.

  • 12-3-2020 Zwift Shimano Social Ride Info
  • 12-3-2020 Zwift Shimano Social Ride Finish

Most of the ride my position held around 35 to 40 ahead of the last rider. Overall 746 people signed up with about 508 on the start line.

For the YouTube livestream I added an inset of me on the Blue Norcross AL bike pedaling away. I can’t record the music I listened to for copyright reasons but you can see me singing at times. The music was from several stations on SiriusXM.

Local weather at my home improved from yesterday’s rain with partly to mostly cloudy skies and the temperature in 49 to 52 degree range, below my outside biking threshold.

Again Strava recorded 4 personal records. I am surprised considering how slow I rode compared to the rest.
