About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

By Gordon Collier | www.kwtx.com

BURNET, Texas (KWTX) – A unique park in Central Texas has a ski lift, but those who ride it aren’t wearing skis, they’re carrying mountain bikes.

Spider Mountain bike park opened about a year and a half ago just outside of Burnet and its popularity has grown along with the sport of mountain biking.

When gyms and so many other forms of exercise were shut down by the pandemic, cycling exploded.

With an abundance of hills and rocky terrain, central Texas has become a …

Not Ready For A Class C Zwift Event In Richmond

Texbiker.net Posted on December 2, 2020 by Rick AnkrumDecember 2, 2020

I was better prepared for today’s Zwift bike ride but clearly outclassed in my choice of event. My second Zwift event since April I remembered back then riding in a few “C” rides and holding my own but not today. I chose the “Jenson Button & Leger Social Ride”. My watts/k was about half of what everyone else was producing. My legs are not accustomed to constant pedaling for an hour and 20 minutes apparently and hitting 150 watts. My gearing choice generated 14 to 16 mph. The course was the Richmond 2015 UCI World which my wife and I attended. Compared to the climbing in yesterday’s ride this one was fairly flat. The ride information.

12-2-2020 Zwift Ride Information

The lap covered 20.68 miles with me bringing up the rear. I was with the group for about 10 seconds at the beginning and when other riders blew past me on the course.

The weather outside was raining and in the mid 50’s prompting me to chose Zwift.

I did manage to set 4 personal records according to Strava.

2020 Bike Build?

CYCLE | www.cyclehouston.org

You have been the bedrock of CYCLE, and we are asking you to be that again. Because the Coronavirus has made it too risky to gather in big groups, we have been forced to cancel our 2020 CYCLE Bicycle Ball and Corporate Bike Builds – our two main sources of funding. But the need in the schools remains just as great now as ever before. We want to continue to buy bikes to reward at-risk children for improving their reading and literacy. This will enable them to catch up in school now and prevent them from falling further behind next year and beyond. If we do not help them, many will fall hopelessly behind and eventually drop out of school. Some will enter lives of crime and many will continue the relentless cycle of poverty. Through your generosity our program makes a difference. Already we have seen this …

Penultimate. I used to think that meant a really great writing instrument. (Actually, I didn’t; I just made up that pun right now.) Anyway, November has ended, and December has begun. Eleven months down, one to go. I’ve already surpassed the number of miles from my second longest year, the first one I kept records. That was 5,306 miles in 2016, and now I’m on the cusp of 6,000 miles for 2020. Since I’ve already achieved my huge goal of the equivalent of …

THE STATE AND FUTURE OF BIKING IN AUSTIN

by Cecily Foote | www.bikeleague.org

This month, Austin voters resoundingly affirmed the city’s proposed plans for better active transportation and transit networks. After years of dedicated community engagement from Capital Metro and local advocates like the coalition Transit for Austin, Proposition A, a tax increase to fund a massive expansion of Capital Metro’s transit network, and Proposition B, an active mobility bond, both passed handily.

During the lead-up to the election, most of the spotlight fell on Project Connect, the central question at the core of Prop A. With an initial investment coming in at $7.1 billion, Capital Metro’s system plan has been years in the making, its genesis dating back to the ashes of the …

What A Welcome Back To Zwift, 7 Miles Up Innsbruck

Texbiker.net Posted on December 1, 2020 by Rick AnkrumDecember 1, 2020

When I got out of bed this morning around 6:45 AM the temperature outside showed 28.4 degrees. The forecast called for a high of 64 but I doubted it would get there in time to ride outside. I went to my Zwift account and restarted my subscription and looked for upcoming events. I found one that looked easy but the 11:55 AM start time was not too far away and I wanted to get everything checked before the ride began. After going over my bike, desktop computer and software it looked like the 11:55 ride was too soon so I cancelled that and chose another. But then I finished all the preparations and thought I joined the “Funride” but instead I joined the Innsbruck ride. It wasn’t long, 7 miles, but all uphill. What a welcome back to Zwift. Next event I choose I will look at the description closer.

A lot of the ride I rode 5 to 7 mph. I didn’t realize the event ended at the top as I looked forward to riding down those 7 miles. Usually I think a ride must be at least 10 miles to count but this at 7.03 miles counts because it took me 57 minutes to ride it.

This not the first time I rode Innsbruck in Zwift but the previous times were stage 1 and 2 of Tour de Zwift. I set 4 personal records according to Strava.
