About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Chupacabras and El Paso

By Rorschach | austinmountainbiking.com

I started to put this under El Paso but maybe this is better. When we travel to El Paso our foremost priority is mountain biking in Juarez on the Chupacabras trails. Those who go to El Paso miss so much by not doing this. It is so easy and I just don’t see the risk. The Chupacabras trails are so much better. We ride tandem so this is my bias. So the trails in general are well kept, flowy, so less technical overall. Covid cancelled the Chupacabras for us this year but we went and rode there anyway on the same day and broke the damned frame on our first ride, so wound up road riding in El Paso for the rest of the trip.

The routine is easy and no risk: …

Breaking down Austin’s $460 million bond for bike lanes, trails, sidewalks and more

By Jack Flagler | communityimpact.com

Project Connect, the $7.1 billion plan to revamp public transit in Austin, was not the only transportation decision city voters made Nov. 3.

More than two-thirds of voters—276,137 out of 411,794—elected to approve Proposition B, which provides $460 million in bond funding for transportation projects broken down into nine different categories.

Unlike Project Connect, which takes effect immediately, Proposition B will not affect homeowners’ tax bills for 2021. Instead, it will be phased in over years until it is fully levied in 2026. Once it fully …

Disagree. This week attempted to pass a slower cyclist on Barton Creek after literally screaming that I was passing, tunes so loud I could hear, and sure as hell he pulled left just as I was even with him and had to gently shoulder him back to the right. Temperature Wimp That I Am, Almost Stayed Home

Texbiker.net Posted on November 25, 2020 by Rick AnkrumNovember 25, 2020

The temperature wimp that I am today’s bike ride almost didn’t happen. Around 5 AM it rained about an inch as a front passed through. The temperature dropped below 60 and stayed there for several hours. An overcast sky started to break up around 11:30 AM prompting me to think a bike ride was possible. I waited a little long trying to decide if I would ride. When I went outside to bring the recycle bin back to the garage I saw more sun and felt warmed by the sun. Back inside I got things together and dressed for the ride.

I rode my Canyon Endurace on today’s bike ride starting at 12:25 PM and finishing at 2:05 PM. This was the second ride on my new BiSaddle. I am getting use to the BiSaddle’s shape and it is more comfortable than the Fabric saddle it replaced. After yesterday’s ride I move the saddle about 1/4″ forward to put my sit bones back slightly.

I consider a ride official after biking at least 10 miles. Today’s ride was official with 21.33 miles boosting this week’s miles to 50.17 miles and November to 630.32 miles.

That weather that almost convinced me not to ride improved as the ride progressed. The NW wind increased but only by 2 mph. What it was like at the start 68 (68% humidity, 56.8 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind NW 10 mph; finish 71 (51% humidity, 51.9 dew point), a few clouds, wind NW 12 mph. I made a decision to not wear leg warmers because I thought it would warm up enough to keep my legs comfortable. After 10 minutes my legs warmed up and I didn’t think about them any longer. I wore shorts, a long sleeve thermal jersey, and a windbreaker jacket. I was comfortable and because the jacket was super thin I didn’t sweat as much.

The jacket didn’t have any side pockets to put my GoPro Silver in so I hung it around my neck with the lanyard. It swung around some until I put it inside my jacket.

For some reason 5 video clips recorded in the HEVC format which my editing program couldn’t import. I searched around for a converter program and found one. I think I caused the problem when I switched the Hero 7 silver camera’s video resolution. A message popped up on the screen and I clicked okay not thinking of the problem it would create.

Not much in the power readings since this was a fast casual bike ride. Golden Cheetah overview, followed by Strava and SportTracks.

Hügelland Holiday Marathon at Hill Top Trails

TMBRA Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association | www.facebook.com

After careful consideration and discussion, we are sad to report that we will have to cancel the Hügelland Holiday Marathon at Hill Top Trails on December 5, 2020. The health and safety of the Fredericksburg and TMBRA communities are our main priorities and hosting the event during this time does not seem prudent. Many factors contributed to this decision including advice from our local medical teams, the closing of the local schools, the lack of local volunteers willing to be at the event and the timing of the race a week after Thanksgiving. All of the additional pre-ride days will be cancelled and the riding opportunities will go back to the regular schedule of Sundays 10-1:30 and Monday nights at 6 pm. We look forward to hosting next year and hope everyone has a safe holiday season. Lisa, Adam and the Hill Country Team

Two roadwork projects scheduled to begin Monday

By Thaddeus Imerman | kdhnews.com

Monday is the beginning day for two roadwork projects in Copperas Cove.

The mill and overlay project on Main Street is set to be conducted from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Work is projected to be complete on Dec. 3.

Milling and overlay will be conducted on the roadway from the intersection of West Avenue F to the city limits where North Main Street becomes Tank Destroyer Boulevard, a distance of around one and a half miles.

TTG Utilities of Gatesville is also set to begin the Business Highway 190 project on Monday.

The project, which has been in the works for around two years, will involve constructing a raised median, bike lane, and sidewalk on the south side of the road. The north outside lane will also be converted to a shared vehicle and bicycle lane, said …
