About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Blown In The Wind, No Latin In The Roman Forest

Texbiker.net Posted on June 29, 2020 by Rick AnkrumJune 29, 2020

While June winds down the week began with a 42.48 mile bike ride on the “New Caney – Roman Forest – Valley Ranch” route. The Canyon Endurace CF SLX and I began the ride at 9:58 AM. This was the 5th time biking this route in 2020, 3 times on the Canyon Endurace and 2 times on the Lynskey R300. With today’s miles my June total is up to 859.68 miles. I will try to get the total to 900 miles on tomorrow’s bike ride, the last one for June. The summary of the rides on this route.

6-29-2020 YTD Bike Ride Summaries Todays Route

Weather for today’s bike ride: start 85 (81% humidity, 79 dew point), overcast, wind S 13 mph gusts 18 mph. Finish 89 (75% humidity, 80.1 dew point), overcast, wind S 18 mph. The big story for today was the wind. It helped me get to Roman Forest and extracted a toll on the ride back to Kingwood. For June the temperature was mild which was okay. I finished the ride at 1:20 PM, before it reached the usual peak temperature period.

Strava reported that today’s bike ride was harder than my usual effort. I would agree due to the wind. My legs felt good as a result of the shorter easy ride yesterday. My average hear rate was 124 bps with the max at 156 bps. Power averaged 87 watts with the max at 502 watts.

Video clips worked better today with my hand hold the GoPro Hero7 Silver and the bike mount holding the Hero7 Black. Audio from the Silver wasn’t as good as the Black because the Silver doesn’t accept an external mic like the Black does. I thought about using just the Black camera with my hand but the mic adapter would dangle in the air and putting it my pocket would be hard.

61-Year-Old Man’s Bike Stolen; Arlington Police Donate a New One

www.nbcdfw.com

A 61-year-old man reported the theft of his bicycle to Arlington police Tuesday, upset that he could lose his job at Walmart without his only method of transportation.

But the detective assigned to the case, Shawn Bunster of the Arlington Police Department, worked with Mission Arlington to donate a brand new bicycle to the man Friday, Arlington PD said in a Facebook post. …

Later this summer we will start to discuss city council elections that will take place in November and how they can directly affect bicyclists.
Local races are critically important to furthering bicycle goals.

Commit to staying informed.

800 In The Book, Selfie Stick Failure, No Sign of Sahara Dust

Texbiker.net Posted on June 28, 2020 by Rick AnkrumJune 28, 2020

Late start on today’s bike ride after church. Rolling out the driveway at 1:40 PM on the Canyon Endurace CF SLX bike I rode around Kingwood Streets. I needed to bike at least 9 miles to reach my 800 mile goal for June and I accomplished that biking 25.48 miles. My June total stands at 817.20 miles. This was the 9th time biking this route in 2020, 6 times on the Canyon Endurace and 3 times on the Lynskey R300. A summary of those rides.

6-28-2020 YTD Bike Rides Summary Kingwood Streets

I missed biking three days this due to the weather which meant my string of 200+ mile weeks came to an end. I will start a new string tomorrow. Though I missed 3 days my total for the week came in at 139.02 miles.

6-28-2020 Week Bike Ride Summary Ending 6-28-2020

Weather during the ride was cooler than you expect for a summer day at 89 degrees. If I rode one of my other routes wind would have been an issue today. Weather conditions: start 89 (68% humidity, 77.2 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 10 mph. Finish 89 (69% humidity, 77.4 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 12 mph gusts 24 mph. I thought the wind got stronger during the ride and those 24 mph gusts caught my attention when I rode out in the open.

Today’s video includes clips from both GoPro cameras. The clips with me were from the “loose” camera. I tried using a selfie stick but it was difficult to get out of my jersey pocket and put back in due to the GoPro mount. The sound was better on the selfie stick because my fingers didn’t cover the mic like I did when I held it with my fingers. I held the camera with my right hand but I think if I hold it with my left hand my finger will not cover the mic. I will try that tomorrow. A rolling video studio is not easy.

You would want to fact-check your article, there were never "several hundred riders" at these races. It's multiple (small) fields over a 5hr period and nobody is allowed to be there unless you're competing. Our P123 field had 53 riders. Results here: https://t.co/VZ1Swzv8MC
