About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Why Are Exercises Called Activit-Ease When They’re So Hard?

A DUDE ABIKES | adudeabikes.com

I joke, but it’s true. Exercise is work. That’s why it’s called a work out. Used to be, you could only do it outside. Then some lazy people said let’s invent air conditioning, and then the exercise fanatics said let’s work in. But that term never caught on so they called them Jim Nayseeums. To not embarrass their founder, they spelled it differently, to make people think it was the Greeks. Oh, I’m just being told that is really was the Greeks. Never mind.

Sunday summer sufferfest with Saurabh (for him, not me) Last week I bicycled 140 miles, which if math ain’t yo thang is 20 miles a day. On top of that, I did my …

Some Barometric Pressure, Pedal Pressure, Closing In On A Goal

Texbiker.net Posted on June 23, 2020 by Rick AnkrumJune 23, 2020

With some extra effort I got today’s bike ride started at 9:52 AM. I chose the “Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman” route and added a couple of miles to it to help make up for not biking Monday (yesterday). It rained Monday until mid afternoon when it was too late to ride. Today’s bike ride covered 36.04 miles getting me to 714.22 miles for June, 86 miles short of my 800 mile goal. I will need to ride longer rides this week if I am going to hit 200+ miles because of not biking yesterday. Today was the 6th time biking today’s route in 2020 and the one with the most miles; usually this route is 34+ miles.

6-23-2020 YTD Bike Rides Summary Todays Route

Weather was a concern which motivated me to start when I did. Checking the weather radar I saw a big blob of rain west of Houston but it seemed to be going south rather than east. Looking at part of my Father’s Day gift, a global barometer, the barometric pressure increased while I ate breakfast indicating rain was not likely. This encouraged me to add the extra miles to the route. This is my weather gift for Father’s Day. (barometer on the right)

6-23-2020 Global Barometer

Weather at the start and 12:36 PM finish: start 82 (87% humidity, 78.1 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind calm. Finish 89 (71% humidity, 78.4 dew point), overcast, wind SW 10 mph. The humidity made it feel much warmer than the temperature indicated. Sweating came quickly and easily. Tonight the threat of rain may bring spotty flooding which might impact tomorrow’s biking.

With the day off my legs felt good today and Strava told me today’s bike ride was harder than my usual effort. Pedaling the Canyon Endurace bike felt good. The hardest part of the ride was crossing Lake Houston going west into the SW wind.

Florida performer bikes 3,000 miles to surprise hundreds of friends with a song and dance

www.theweek.com

Billy Flanigan will travel any distance — by bike, no less — to spread cheer to his friends and colleagues.

Flanigan has been an entertainer at Walt Disney World for 38 years, and with the resort closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, he missed being able to sing and dance for people. While on a bike ride, he realized he was near a friend’s house, and …

… Flanigan estimates he has visited about 265 people and logged more than 3,000 miles on his bike since the pandemic began. He has pedaled to see friends who live 90 miles away from his home, and also brought his bike on a road trip so he could surprise pals in California, Texas, and Arizona. "He’s just the perfect example of how a little act of kindness can go a long way," friend Becky Roper said. Catherine Garcia

Hot Ride Through the Texas Hill Country

By Kevin Burrell | www.crazyguyonabike.com

Introduction – June Bike Ride through the Hill Country…. am I crazy?!: Water…. Water… .Water

I think this ride is meant to be done in feb-april when there are beautiful bluebonnets/wildflowers out and about, and temps are in the 60’s/70’s. But my bike wasn’t ready for this timeline and neither was the world with current events escalating. I will attempt a summer ride, trying to start as early in the morning as possible to avoid the 90 + temps.

The Route: Roughly following ACA Adventure Cycling Maps Hill Country Route

Still deciding exact route, may only do a couple days of this route to meet up with some friends for camping. Here is the hill country route general map.
