Wheels’ bikes can once again be found on the streets Dallas after the company suspended operations in March.
Dallas is one of seven markets worldwide in which the California-based bike-share company has resumed operations since the coronavirus pandemic took hold. Before the pandemic, there were 1,000 Wheels bikes available in Dallas. The company is hoping to reach that level once again in the coming months.
Chief Legal Officer Todd Maron said COVID-19 has caused the company to …
The 70-day Texas 4000 for Cancer bike ride has gone virtual this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Local athlete and University of Texas at Austin student Clara Souza is participating in the virtual event which began May 29 and ends June 26.
“Throughout my life, I have seen many people who I love to be affected by cancer in some way. I have seen whole families come together to fight alongside their loved ones. However, I have also seen the immense emotional and physical toll it takes on individuals and their families,†Souza said.

Before starting today’s bike ride I made one of my favorite dishes, fruit salad. This a mixture of fresh fruit, nuts, coconut, dried fruit, and canned Mandarin oranges. I made it this morning so it will have all day to chill in the refrigerator and marinate. Looking forward to eating some at dinner. After completing that I got ready to ride. The ride on the Canyon Endurace began at 10:26 AM heading north on my “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” route. After biking 37.54 miles I finished the ride at 1:22 PM. My week totals 120.98 miles and June is up to 564.16 miles. With those miles I crossed the 4,000 road mile mark year to date. Today marks the 6th time using this route in 2020, all on the Canyon Endurace bike.
Weather continues bike ride friendly with a beautiful sky, light wind, and hot temperatures, which I like. With all of the sun I wore arm sleeves rather than sunscreen on my arms. I never stop during a ride to put on sunscreen but today I did from a small tube. Watch the video to see a great looking sky. What the conditions were like during the bike ride: start 87 (66% humidity, 74.1 dew point), a few clouds, wind S 5 mph. Finish 94 (47% humidity, 70.6 dew point), partly cloudy, wind S 7 mph.
My one day experiment with the Akason camera ended. I returned it to Amazon. The GoPro Hero7 Black may freeze at random times but the video and audio quality were vastly better. I want to take off the bike video during a ride but haven’t figured out an easy way using the GoPro. I am leaning to using my Pixel 3XL phone because I can get it quickly versus the GoPro.
I took these photos after entering Tavola at Via Principale Parkway and Gran Roble Drive. (click on the image to enalrge it)
I learned about a feature in SportTracks on Twitter today. It will show where I paused during a ride and how long.
After the previous Sunday’s smaller ride, Bike Ride for Black Lives Matter… I somehow heard about another one even though it was organized on Facey Spacey. I happened to be awake and I’m always in need of more miles. Rather than stand around looking at the police station or state police, I decided to join in and try to learn something. The organizers expected 50 people, and they got at least 500. It was a huge event and lasted four hours in the hot Texas sun, but it was a …
A new ranking was just released from PeopleForBikes, a nonprofit devoted to making cycling safer for everyone, and Austin rides in at No. 20.
That might sound impressive, especially when you consider 567 cities were analyzed to get these rankings, but it’s not quite the accolade that it first appears.
"Our city ratings create a holistic picture of bicycling in cities based on measurable factors," says Rebecca Davies, PeopleForBikes’ network and mapping specialist. "Top scorers are cities of all types and geographies who have succeeded in different ways, including cities with strong historical investments in …

Houston has a bike plan — and Kingwood is included.
The Houston Bike Plan reaches all corners of Houston’s 670 miles, extending all the way to Kingwood.
“The Houston Bike Plan includes the series of existing trails in Kingwood, reflecting feedback provided by Kingwood-area residents during our planning effort,†said Anna Sedillo, communications coordinator for the City of Houston’s Planning and Development Department. “Some of the feedback we heard from Kingwood residents was to better connect Kingwood to the rest of Houston as well as to the Kingwood Park and Ride on West Lake Houston Parkway and the Townsen Park and Ride in Humble.â€

Mountain biking is so rad.
Not only did I almost manage to accidentally launch myself off a small cliff (epic butt bruise) but I tore my shoe apart on a climb.

Today’s bike ride followed the “May Park Community Center – Huffman” route. I set off on the Canyon Endurace bike at 10:52 AM and finished at 2:09 PM after biking 41.8 miles. This was the second time biking this route in 2020. Both times I rode the Canyon Endurace bike. This moves the week’s total to 83.44 miles and June to 526.61 miles, 66% of the way to my June goal.
The weather is getting into the summer mode with heat and dryness. I wisely used the CamelBak for my water supply which kept it cold until the finish. Weather while I biked: start 91 (62% humidity, 76 dew point), a few clouds, wind SE 4 mph. Finish 94 (46% humidity, 70.5 dew point), partly cloudy, wind E 13 mph. The arm sleeves kept me comfortable while providing sun protection.
No video from today’s bike ride. I used the Akaso camera but the video was usable. The sound was weak even using the microphone. The image vibrated from no image stabilization. I thought I understood how to use the control buttons but I turned recording on when I thought I turned it off resulting in one clip of 22 minutes which drained the battery. When I changed the battery the time and date went to the default causing the clips to not download in the correct sequence. The GoPro Hero7 black runs circles around this camera as it it should considering the price. I will return the Akaso camera and mic. I did capture these pictures from the video.
I don’t bike in Liberty County often but today’s route had a 200 yard loop past the county line sign and then back into Harris County. May Community Center is closed. I used to stop there to get ice but not today. The CamelBak saved the day with cold water.
