About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

RIP Bandera Bike Park

by Barry | austinmountainbiking.com

I am glad to have been once. Good stuff. But this has to be devastating for those who put countless hours into the trails, and for the locals who regularly enjoyed the park. And the upcoming race series, which I have to assume is canceled–or will have to be relocated.

Covid casualty? Something else?? Their FB posts went from curious to ominous to bad over about a month. …

Cool, Sticky, Overcast Sky, and a Dose of Tailwind

Texbiker.net Posted on June 1, 2020 by Rick AnkrumJune 1, 2020

Starting a new month of biking with a 36.17 mile ride on the “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route. I start ed the ride at 11:36 AM and finished at 2:25 PM. My goal for June is 800 miles which means I will be busy and off days will be rare unless the weather forces me. Today was the 11th ride on this route in 2020. The bike for today’s ride was my Canyon Endurace CF SLX.

6-1-2020 YTD Bike Rides Summary for today route

The weather could’ve been better with an overcast sky and strong humidity which made it feel cool at the start. Once I warmed up it got sticky. Weather while I biked: start 79 (78% humidity, 71.1 dew point), overcast, wind NE 9 mph. Finish 81 (73% humidity, 72.0 dew point), overcast, wind E 7 mph.

Riding to the north the wind didn’t present a problem as I improved my average speed. Once I made the turn back to the south the tailwind allowed me to push the average speed to 14.5 mph at one point but then settled in at 14.4 mph until I got to Kings Manor.

TEXARKANA, Texas — Berridge Bikes has been pedaling away since 2002. After starting at a New Boston Road location, it has become a downtown fixture.

"Downtown is coming along," said Terry Berridge, its owner. "I had been considering moving downtown for awhile. This building was move in ready for us. Both the space and price was right. This is a big enough store to test ride bikes in."

Only Month With This, Threatening Sky But Not A Problem, Week And Month’s Wrap Up

Texbiker.net Posted on May 31, 2020 by Rick AnkrumMay 31, 2020

I needed 18 miles to push the week’s total over 200 miles. Starting the ride at 1:52 PM I selected a route that go that far but not leave the area around Kingwood. I call the route “Kingwood Streets” and biked 23.54 miles making the week’s total 205.82 miles. The Lynskey R300 carried me over the streets.

The weather looked threatening with overcast sky and a few dark clouds sprinkled around. My gray sunglasses lens accentuated the dark sky causing me to wonder if I would ride those 18 miles dry or wet. It turned out to be dry though near the end the pavement showed signs of rain before I got there. As I finished the ride standing at my driveway I felt a couple of rain drops but it didn’t go any farther. Weather while I biked: start 83 (74% humidity, 73.9 dew point), overcast, wind E 12 mph. Finish 81 (84% humidity, 75.3 dew point), overcast, wind NE 9 mph.

Strava activity page link for today’s bike ride. Link to the SportTracks activity page. Below is the PowerPod bike ride charts with the chart for wind marked with the red arrow. I find the headwind and tailwind information interesting.

5-31-2020 PowerPod Bike Ride Data Charts-2

May is the only month this year that ends on a Sunday which coincides with the end of a week. Recapping the week and month biking activities I biked 27 days out of 31. The Canyon Endurace CF SLX carried me 648.5 miles and the Lynskey R300 291.67 miles of the month’s 940.17 miles. This is the second month at 900+ miles, the other was April. Below are the summaries of the rides YTD on Kingwood street, Canyon Endurace May bike rides, Lynskey R300 May bike rides, this week’s bike rides summary, May bike ride summary, and YTD all bike rides summary.
