Bike Rodeo exceeds expectations

Local kids learned how to ride their bikes safely in an engaging way at an event this past weekend.

Taylor Parks and Recreation hosted the Youth Safety Bike Rodeo Saturday, March 23 at Naomi Pasemann Elementary School.

About 250 students from kindergarten through middle school and supervisors received a series of educational stations on bike maintenance, bike safety and helmet fitting. Free helmets were given out to the first 80 children.

Pedaling Past Weather Woes: Nearing a Monthly Goal

My aversion to below 60 degree weather almost got the better of me today but I kept thinking about only needing 28 miles to reach my March goal of 680 miles. After making a run to Walmart to exchange an item I got ready to go for today’s bike ride. The temperature fluctuated between 60 and 63 but I dressed warmly and headed out on my Cervelo Caledonia bike at 1:07 PM. Weather radar showed a big patch of green on the southwest side of Houston moving a little towards Kingwood. With that in mind and chilly weather I decided to ride the Kingwood – Brooklyn Trails route to not stray too far from home in case rain happened. Leg warmers, long sleeve thermal jersey, wind jacket and full finger gloves kept me comfortable most of the ride as I covered 23.48 miles leaving 5 more miles to reach my goal. Tomorrow’s weather looks better to get those 5 miles and more. I finished the ride at 2:59 PM without and rain.

Weather: Start 63 degrees, humidity 55%, dew point 46.7, overcast, wind N 9 mph; Finish 62 degrees, humidity 60%, dew point 48.3, overcast, wind N 7 mph.

Reveille Peak Ranch Mountain Biking: How to plan your visit

As I was researching my trip to Texas Hill Country, I saw a place on TrailForks that looked intriguing: Reveille Peak Ranch. Located almost squarely between Spider Mountain (to the north) and Station Mountain (to the south), this trail network – at least from what I could tell – was definitely worth a visit (just check out the trail map!).

To be honest, the layout of the Ranch was a bit intimidating, though – there’s a lot of ground to cover. But thankfully I had two friends and Austin locals (sort of) to show me around. The first couple of miles into our ride I was a bit unsure (overgrown trails and mean rocks?) but once we got on the good stuff, I was sold! Reveille Peak Ranch is a pretty cool destination for mountain bikers – if you know what you’re getting into.

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — One man is hospitalized after he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on Tuesday afternoon in Wichita Falls.

Officers with the Wichita Falls Police Department responded to the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Pecan Street at around 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, for reports of a cyclist being hit by a car.

Goal Driven Bike Ride. Atascocita – Walden – Huffman

I dressed warm for today’s bike ride and set out on the Atascocita – Walden – Huffman route to get closer to my March road mile goal. My Canyon Endurace bike and I rolled out at 12:06 PM. I rode 35.13 miles leaving 28 miles to reach the 680 mile goal. I prefer it to be much warmer but I was driven by the goal.
