Started the week off biking on my “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route. This is a route I ride often especially with the bridge repair on my southerly rides. (See the YTD ride summaries below) Wheels down at 11:15 AM and finished at 2:06 PM. I rode 36.06 miles on my Canyon Endurace CF SLX bike hopefully setting up a 200+ mile week.
Before the ride the AC repairman came to inspect my 22 year old unit. The reason for the visit was find out why it is not putting out cold air and the cause is the Freon is down 2 pounds. This means the system has a leak. Due to the age it is time to replace the system before the summer heat arrives. The furnace is even older with 35 years on it. It will be replaced too.
Weather while I biked to Tavola and back: start 81 (39% humidity, 53.9 dew point), a few clouds, wind E 10 mph. Finish 83 (39% humidity, 55.4 dew point), partly cloudy, wind variable 6 mph. As the sun rose this morning the temperature warmed up from 57. I wore shorts and a short sleeve jersey. At the beginning I felt a slight chill when I rode in the shade but once I warmed up no problem staying warm. With the wind from the east I didn’t fight a headwind or tailwind most of the bike ride. Nice!
Riding north on the frontage road after crossing FM 1314 I heard the train horn to the east but it sounded different. I thought by the time I got to Loop 494 which parallels the tracks the train would be long gone but it was still moving south. When I came to the Roman Forest Blvd. crossing I saw why it took time for the train to travel south. Watch the video to see why.
