EDINBURG – For over two years Brandon Ramirez would get up at 4:30 a.m. and ride his bicycle across the bridge from Matamoros to Brownsville.
There he would board a college shuttle to attend class.
Now, he just graduated as an automotive engineer.
His parents bought him the bicycle for $40 at a flea market.
Besides his parents, it was his college dean, who kept talking to him and pushing him.

A continuing goal for BBP is providing connectivity up and down Houston’s historic waterway. In downtown, projects totaling nearly $6 million in federal and private funds raised by BBP, extended the trail from Main to Smith streets. By incorporating bridge abutments and other infrastructure, the trail linking Allen’s Landing to Sesquicentennial Park is one of the most distinctive in the city.
2020: In partnership with Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) and Houston Parks Board’s Bayou Greenways Program, and thanks to generous gifts from Gerald and Jeff Hines and Sis and Hasty Johnson, BBP will begin construction on another unique trail extending from Allen’s Landing to east downtown and beyond.
