About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Getting My Lynskey R300 Road Bike Ready To Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on January 31, 2020 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 31, 2020

After the unboxing the Lynskey R300 Titanium bike I needed to add several accessories to make it ready to ride. Some of those are personal choices that I became familiar with after years of biking.

Now that these are in place the next step is the out and back calibration ride for the PowerPod power meter. Friday’s weather looks like that ride will take place on Saturday though.

Video: CON MI GENTE: More Than Just a Bike

By: Rick Diaz | www.krgv.com

EDINBURG – For over two years Brandon Ramirez would get up at 4:30 a.m. and ride his bicycle across the bridge from Matamoros to Brownsville.

There he would board a college shuttle to attend class.

Now, he just graduated as an automotive engineer.

His parents bought him the bicycle for $40 at a flea market.

Besides his parents, it was his college dean, who kept talking to him and pushing him.

From Matamoros Brandon would ride his bike to the Brownsville Campus, and then take the university shuttle to UTRGV in Edinburg to attend classes.

Banking on Buffalo Bayou – Winter 2020

Buffalo Bayou Partnership | buffalobayou.org

A continuing goal for BBP is providing connectivity up and down Houston’s historic waterway. In downtown, projects totaling nearly $6 million in federal and private funds raised by BBP, extended the trail from Main to Smith streets. By incorporating bridge abutments and other infrastructure, the trail linking Allen’s Landing to Sesquicentennial Park is one of the most distinctive in the city.

2020: In partnership with Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) and Houston Parks Board’s Bayou Greenways Program, and thanks to generous gifts from Gerald and Jeff Hines and Sis and Hasty Johnson, BBP will begin construction on another unique trail extending from Allen’s Landing to east downtown and beyond. Once again, existing infrastructure will be used as the trail winds its way through the basements of several historic County buildings. We also hope to join with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and open the long-awaited Clayton Homes Trail and pedestrian bridge east of downtown.

Tour de Zwift Stage 5 – Gotham Grind Reverse Take 2

Texbiker.net Posted on January 30, 2020 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 30, 2020

I didn’t want to do another beginner’s ride today so I chose stage 5 race on Central Park Perimeter Loop racing 11.5 miles and riding a total of 11.56 miles. The questions is how did this compare to the first time? Looking at my results at Zwiftpower.com my w/kg today was 2.4 vs 2.6 on Tuesday. Average watts look like this: Tuesday 186 and to 169 today.

  • 1-28-2020-Tour-de-Zwift-Stage-Race-GC-Charts
    January 28th Stage 5 Race
  • 1-30-2020-Tour-de-Zwift-Stage-5-Race-GC-Charts
    January 30th Stage 5 Race

While I raced I watched my watts closely and tried to stay in a group except maybe going uphill where drafting doesn’t help that much.

The City of Tyler will discuss the Tyler Bike Stripes project that will provide about 50 miles of bicycle lanes throughout the city.

TYLER, Texas — The City of Tyler has been working to add more transportation opportunities to the city. A look at many of Tyler’s roads shows a lack of bike lanes.
