Just before noon today FedEx delivered my new Lynskey R300 Titanium 2020 road bike. As all new things deserve I recorded an unboxing video. I ordered the bike in late December. Before ordering it I searched for any videos on the bike and found none.
Before I ride outside I need to add my stuff to the bike: pedals, seat bag, computer mount, computer sensors, pump, water bottle cage, rear light mount, and probably something I forgot.
Some of the bike information:

Now all I need is some decent Houston weather to ride outside.
Lining up for the start at 12:01 PM the Group B riders pulled away from the start line on the 12.1 mile route through NYC Central Park. In Houston the weather outside was overcast and 49 degrees but it would heat up inside as I rode the Wahoo Kickr Snap smart trainer up down some hills. The hills didn’t seem quite as difficult today versus the Stage 5 race yesterday. On Tour de Zwift Group Rides Group D disappears so I rode in Group B with Group C reserved for women.
Just before the ride began FedEx rang my doorbell to deliver my new Lynskey R300 bike. I pulled the box inside and will open it later this afternoon. An unboxing video will follow. Good timing so I didn’t need to interrupt the group ride.
Zwift reported 1113 riders across all of the groups with 332 in Group B. I finished at 154th in 35:01, 1 second behind the rider in front and 1 second ahead of the rider behind. I set a new personal record for NY Sprint at 13:09 seconds. Zwiftpower.com put me in 87th place among the riders registered there. I am now at level 14 in Zwift and building my garage items.
Here’s what it took for Mat Stephens to win his fourth Texas Chainring Massacre, just ahead of teammate Spencer Seggebruch.
Editor’s note: Gravel Power Analysis is a new column by coach Zach Nehr, who last year did a Power Analysis column on pro road racing. This year, as he is racing gravel with Panaracer/Factor p/b Bicycle X-Change, he’ll regularly check in with power analysis from gravel races.
Over 600 riders toed the start line of Spinstry’s 2020 Panaracer Texas Chainring Massacre, a traditional gravel season opener held about 50 miles outside of Dallas, Texas.
This would be my first time competing in a ‘real’ gravel race. I had done a few local events in Kansas and Wisconsin, but you could number those participants in tens, not hundreds. By the time I …
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX KJTL) — Endurance House is gearing up to host the Falls Town Fury, a first of its kind gravel bicycle ride to raise money to send local cyclists to competitions around the world.
One such cyclist is Wichita Falls’ Brian Taylor, who plans to compete in the 2020 Ironman World Championships.
In November, triathletes from around the world will compete to swim, bike and run across the rugged, beautiful New Zealand terrain.
To help him travel thousands of miles away for this, the owner of Endurance House, Mark Pinson is …
The question: “Why do people assume they can jog or ride a bicycle on the wrong side of the street heading into traffic?â€
The answer: Channel 2 viewer Alan wrote in with this question. It’s an important one. Runners, bicyclists and drivers all need to share the road. And, considering that Houston is a city with extremely congested traffic, it’s good to know the rules of the road for bicyclists and runners, so here they are. …
EL PASO, Texas — Jason Folie, a 35-year-old man from Waseca, Minnesota, is going blind, but his vision is saving sight.
Folie was diagnosed with Choroideremia (CHM), an X-linked recessive retinal degenerative disease that affects roughly 1 in 50,000 males in the United States. CHM begins with night blindness at a young age, followed by loss of peripheral vision, and eventually leads to total blindness. There is currently no treatment or cure for CHM.
He’s described as being a 5’08†tall 170 lb white male with a thin build.
FANNETT, Texas — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding a missing 62-year-old Fannett man.
Kenneth Lee Wilson, 62, was last seen riding a white bicycle with blue lettering or a blue bicycle more than a month ago on December 23, 2019, near Craigen Road and Highway 124 according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Staff just indicated that they're working with @dentonparks to incorporate the draft Trails Master Plan into maps of the draft Bike Plan, so there will be a more complete picture of bike routes around town.

Mayor Pro Tem Hudsdpeth states that he wants to see our bicycle infrastructure built safe enough to encourage more hesitant riders, the bulk of the population, to feel safe enough to use it.

After the climbs in Stage 4 today’s race seemed almost flat but climbing still existed. We went up 8.5% inclines a couple of times over the 11.59 mile race.. I managed to keep close to the group in position 118 to 122 for most of the race. Starting at 12:13 PM Group D comprised of 228 racers of the 591 overall the groups. The race didn’t last long at 32:22.
Several years ago I rented a bike at NYC Central Park and rode most of today’s course. The bike weighed a ton and its condition begged for some maintenance but my son-in-law and I slowly rolled around the park. I remember some of the scenery during today’s race. No slow rolling today!
I signed up for ZwiftPower.com today to see what I can learn about Zwifting and to see how I compare with others. I read a blog post about Zwiftpower.com helping to spot sandbag racers, people race slow races when they should be in faster groups. Zwiftpower connects to Zwift and shows data about how various racers compare in an event. Being an option not everybody in an event will show up in Zwiftpower. Today’s race produced these results in ZwiftPower.
I circled my results at 30th among the 52 racers in Group D that use Zwiftpower. The winner of Group D finished in 28:31, about 4 minutes faster than me with an average of 3.0 w/kg. I think Group D maxes out at 2.5 w/kg so maybe the winner should have raced in Group C where he would have placed 64th. But I am not getting hung up about the sandbag issue since I use Zwift because I can’t ride outside and races provide variety.
