About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Zwifting with The Herd's Bull Run (D) in Richmond

Texbiker.net Posted on January 15, 2020 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 15, 2020

50 minutes of fast paced fun riding behind a fence with the last 10 minutes riding wild. The leader took the fence off with 10 minutes to go and said go wild but I used all of my “wild biking” keeping up with the herd. So I came in cooked but in the top 15% of Group D bikers.

Wanting to ride outside I checked the streets when I got the recycle bin at the end of the driveway. The puddles in the gutter and wet concrete from gutter to gutter meant the Canyon covered with grit and grime plus me too. After getting back inside I checked Zwift for rides coming up and chose this one. I rode with The Herd on several other rides so I knew a little about the pace. At the start I allowed no time to warm up getting my w/kg to 1.7 to stay with the group for drafting purposes. Overall 329 bikers rode and I came in at around 205 at the start but worked my way up to the front group even breaching the fence a few times but getting back before 60 seconds elapsed.

After that I stayed in the top 80 for awhile drifting back when a steep hill came around 8 miles into the ride. For a brief moment the graphic showed 28% for a sport on the climb but settled back to 12%. Some riders stopped as I rode by at 4 mph or so. This happened again about 10 miles later. Grueling climb on what I thought was going to be a fairly flat course. My wife and I attended the UCI World Championships in Richmond and I don’t remember anyone talking about a 28% climb on the course.

The ride live streamed on Twitch.TV/Texbiker.

More warm weather on Thursday. Maybe the fog and humidity will not keep the streets wet and I can go biking.

Mountain bike trail created in Riverside Park; second trail planned

By Steve Nash | www.brownwoodtx.com

Brownwood resident Terry Blevins brought his enthusiasm for mountain biking to the Brownwood City Council Tuesday.

Blevins, with the help of friends, cleared underbrush and created a 1-mile mountain biking trail that winds through the north side of Riverside Park, crossing the existing nature trail, Blevins told council members.

Blevins said he next wants to create a mountain bike trail on the park’s west side that would be two to three miles long. …

City currently has 15 miles of sharrows, with more planned in the draft map. However, there are also plans for protected bike lanes and off-street sidepaths.

— Bike Denton (@bikedenton) January 14, 2020

CM Briggs: Where does funding currently come from to implement bicycle infrastructure? Staff response: Funding comes from a variety of sources, but often lumped in with funding for major road projects. Only annual funding source is the $200K bike fund.

— Bike Denton (@bikedenton) January 14, 2020

Mayor Pro Tem Hudspeth notes he hears complaints of bike lanes getting low usage because they aren't comfortable enough for people to use. Asks for better process for designing comfortable bicycle infrastructure from the get-go, so bike lanes we spend money on actually get used.

Zwifting with the PACK SUB2 Ride in Tick Tock

Texbiker.net Posted on January 14, 2020 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 14, 2020

426 riders signed up and the ride was fast. The leader lost his connection and the group went fast with the fence gone. But when he returned the fence went up and the pace held at around 22 mph on the flats. At one point 140 bikers broke through the fence but I believe they all returned. I breached the fence several times but slowed and got back behind it. The leader trailed the group most of the 2 lap ride. Counting the 1.4 mile lead in the ride went 23.1 miles lasting 1:05:09.

Outside at Texbiker.net the weather felt good at 75 degrees but the humidity, fog and earlier light rain kept the streets wet necessitating some Zwifting.

According to Zwift I moved up a level to 13, earned some dotted socks (Whew! I need those.), and set 2 new personal records: Fuego Flats 50.20 seconds and Fuego Flats again at 44.17 seconds. Strava recorded several new personal records too. Zwift says Tick Tock is unlocked. Not sure what that means.

Maybe Wednesday the weather will let me ride outside. It looks to be cloudy and 77 degrees.

2019 still leads all year to date mileage since 2011 at 308.35 miles.
