About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Fog and Rain Outside, Zwifting SZR Beginner Ride Inside

Texbiker.net Posted on January 2, 2020 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 2, 2020

As expected the weather today meant Zwift to the rescue. I chose the SZR ride because of the time of day fit my schedule to watch the University of Cincinnati Bearcats play in the Birmingham Bowl. The ride began at 12:00 PM and lasted 56:38 while biked 18.85 miles.

Yesterday I learned the camera view can be changed in Zwift. During today’s ride I used a wireless keyboard and switched camera views. Some of the views offered a slight change but one I liked most switched to different positions along the route. I streamed the ride live on Twitch.tv/texbiker.

The fence caught me a few times today but I slowed and went back behind. The last 5 K was fence free and the pace picked up some. I noticed one rider on a mountain bike from the flat handle bars. It might have been hard to keep the pace with MTB gearing and tires.

Friday the weather shows some improvement but Saturday is more likely to be the first outdoor ride in 2020.

Zwift The Herd’s Bull Run Through London Starts 2020 Off

Texbiker.net Posted on January 1, 2020 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 1, 2020

The Herd riders wore 2020 top hats for those with helmets. Strange seeing a biker with a top hat on instead of a helmet.

We rode around London which the leader called a “flat route” but a couple of steep climbs lurked among the flat roads. A particularly steep one went into the London subway up a bank of escalators. We did not get to ride down the escalator bank though.

I got off to a slow start as I warmed up as we rode in virtual rain. I can handle virtual rain and the virtual grit and grime. The leader called the average pace at 1.7 – 2.0 w/kg but the group jumped off the start line much higher than that leaving me to catch up. It took me until 12 miles into the ride to get with the front group. Once there I watched the fence and when I slowed going up a hill to stay behind I fell from 30th to 40th to 105th or so. From then I moved up to 80th position about and then fell back settling in around 105 out 262 riders.

No technical difficulties during the ride today. I streamed live on Twitch.tv/texbiker with no problems using Streamlabs OBS.

Today’s ride totaled 22.06 miles towards my 100 mile virtual riding goal for January and 800 mile virtual riding goal for 2020. Road mile goals: 300 miles for January and 7,000 for 2020.

Thursday will probably be another Zwifting day with the weather staying cool and maybe wet.
