About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Stuff I Did: Dayum It Feels Good to Be a Bikestah!

A DUDE ABIKES | adudeabikes.com

I did some stuff. Maybe it’s a lot, maybe not but it’s hard to say. Everyone’s stuff is different. So if it’s okay, I’d like to tell you about my stuff. I guess that’s why you’re here. “What’s that? It’s fine.” you say. “Great, thank you, that’s very kind of you,” is my reply. Most of the stuff I did and which I’m going to tell you about has to do with bicycling. Other stuff is more tangential but still, I either went places on a bicycle or I talked about bicycling, so it counts. Without delay, here’s the stuff.

The first main thing I did even before showering, shaving and dressing was to do these usually daily things (or collectively The Stuff, if you’d rather): …

Hard Work Staying Behind The Fence Zwift Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on December 12, 2019 by Rick AnkrumDecember 12, 2019

I chose this ride for the start time (12:20 PM). At first I rode near the back but worked my way up near the front and a couple of times into #1 position. Watching the fence required diligence and I rode through it a few times but slowed down to let it pass me. Each time I did that I dropped from the front group to 20th position or more. The ride more was an attention keeper to stay behind the fence than an all out effort like yesterday’s ride up several 12% climbs.

The weather outside was not quite up to my 60 degree threshold before the start time. Tomorrow (Friday) the temperature should get in the mid 60’s and I will ride outdoors. Great option to ride Zwift indoors when the weather isn’t warm and/or dry.

According to Strava I set three Personal Records on segments during today’s ride. The number of segments in the ride is large, after listing a bunch 157 hidden ones remained.

Today’s ride totaled 16.87 miles putting the week at 86.98 miles (road + Zwift). December totals 158.38 miles (road + Zwift) and year to date stands at 7,828 miles, the most I rode in a year. Last year due to leg surgery I rode 0 miles in December.

I have been tempted to buy another bike to ride indoors but I keep coming back to the Blue Norcross AL has no issues and can’t justify a change.

Video: Man cycling across country for suicide awareness

www.kswo.com

DUNCAN, Okla. (TNN) – One man is cycling across the entire United States to raise awareness of suicide.

Daniel Hurd with "One Pedal At A Time" began his journey in March of last year, starting off in his home state of Massachusetts.

Tuesday night he was in Duncan, the latest step on his bike ride through every state in the continental U.S.

He’s riding to bring more awareness to suicide and its prevention, starting his ride after his own attempts on his life.

He hopes to reduce the stigma through conversation.

“Its unfortunate that we can connect to it so well these days. But that’s why I go around talking about, telling people how important it is to talk about it. To tell people to understand it’s okay to talk and be comfortable talking about it, so we can help more people avoid that situation," said Hurd.

Hurd plans to continue his journey Wednesday, going to Wichita Falls to make Texas his 37th state visited. …

The Herd’s Bull Run Up 12% Mountains Zwift Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on December 11, 2019 by Rick AnkrumDecember 11, 2019

After yesterday’s electricity interruption concern about a repeat today during Zwifting went away as the ride progressed. Outside the weather was sunny but the mid 50’s temperature fell below my 60 degree threshold.

The ride began at 12:00 PM but rather than a time limit like most of the rides I’ve done before this one showed a distance of 22.2 miles (I actually rode 23.16 miles). I wondered how long it would take me to cover that distance, especially after the leader D.T. mentioned the mountain in the last part of the course. He didn’t mention the 12% climb up the mountain or the the other mountains during the lead up to the leg killer. I climbed more on this ride than any previous Zwift ride and rode the longest time at 1:49:04. I rode a longer time and distance on a Rouvy but that route was flat.

322 fellow sufferers rode the mountains around the Zwift Innsbruck World. For the early portion of the ride I held around the 240’s but when the mountains arrived I moved up 30 positions or so. The mountains slowed me down but I did not stop. Sometimes I rode at 3 or 4 mph and the Wahoo Kickr Snap smart trainer made turning the pedals hard, very hard. The effort is reflected in my 12.7 mph overall average speed. The route profile below shows the mountain at the end of the ride.

Thursday most likely will be another Zwift bike ride with the forecast of maybe 60 degrees.
