About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin’s Butler Hike and Bike Trail could be expanded, further west past MoPac.

The Parks and Rec Department briefed Austin City Council this week on the “Our Parks, Our Future” plan. The long term idea includes expanding the trail from where it ends at MoPac all the way to Red Bud Isle.

All of the projects Parks and Rec officials are looking at come down to a specific need.

“It’s a capacity issue,” says Kim McKnight of Austin Parks & Rec. “The …

Zwifting in Richmond Rather Than A Houston Chill Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on November 1, 2019 by Rick AnkrumNovember 1, 2019

As I predicted today’s ride happened on Zwift. This morning 32.9 degrees greeted me when I went to the kitchen after I got up. By the time I got ready to begin the ride it “warmed” up to 54, again below my 60 degree threshold.

The event started at 12:05 PM with 260 participants. I chose the Zwift “3R Richmond Flat Race – 6 Laps” course. Getting ready put me on the bike but I had to get off the bike and walk to another room which caused the cadence sensor to disconnect from the Zwift app but I reconnected it and began the ride on time though at the back of the peloton. At the start I held position 242 but over the course of the ride I moved up to 204 out of 260. I rode the “D” class and the higher groups whizzed by from time to time. Photos of my computer monitor.

Today the screen layout returned to what I saw in other rides except yesterday’s. This leads me to believe yesterday’s screen comes with workouts and today’s screen is for rides/races. The last photo shows me in position 200 near the finish.

Goals for November: 360 road miles and 100 virtual ride miles. The weather can be tricky in November so the road miles may be scattered around.

Zwifting Flanders La Fleche Wallone to Close October Bike Rides

Texbiker.net Posted on October 31, 2019 by Rick AnkrumOctober 31, 2019

Another indoor virtual ride day on Zwift. This morning when I got up it was 39 degrees outside. It took several hours to warm up to the low 50’s and when it came time to ride the temperature stood at 54, below my 60 degree threshold. On top of that the wind gusts added to the chill factor.

Today’s ride was the first workout type using Zwift. To fit my time schedule I chose one starting at 1:30 PM with called the Flanders La Fleche Wallone Workout. It consisted of 4 intervals with a 5 minute warmup, 30 seconds at 170 watts, 30 seconds at 195 watts, slowing to 5 minutes at 155 watts followed by 5 minutes at 80 watts keeping cadence at 95 rpm. I chose the D group so I don’t know if the A, B, and C groups’ workout differed. Most of the workout I stayed around 62 out of 89 but on the last interval I got up to 43 out of 89. The workout lasted 60 minutes.

Some screenshots I took during the workout.

On the left of the screen Zwift lists the steps in the workout and a pointer moves down as each step finishes. The white box in the middle is different from yesterday’s ride where that information was in two boxes, one in the upper left and in the middle. Down the right side is the list of the riders close to my position, both in front and behind. I think I am starting to get the hang of Zwift. No problems pairing all of the sensors today. Friday will probably be another Zwifting day with the temperature getting colder over night.

SportTracks Zwift Workout Summary

10-31-2019 SportTracks Zwift Bike Ride Summary

Today closes out October biking. I biked 764.32 miles, exceeding my 700 mile goal. Year to date I rode 6,927 miles on the road and 164 miles virtual rides, all on Zwift, a total of 7,091 miles.
