This Sunday, expect to see a phalanx of cyclists traveling south on Broadway from Burr Road to Travis Park accompanied by at least one member of City Council, possibly more. This will not be a joyride, but rather a pedal-powered demonstration to persuade the city to install bike lanes on lower Broadway, even though there is a much safer alternative.
Yes, we’ve spun our wheels about this before.
This summer, Mayor Ron Nirenberg began pushing the city to redesign the nascent $42 million Broadway Street Corridor bond project. Echoing …

There aren’t a lot of evening social rides in my part of town, and I’d been noticing this new one for a while. Today after heading out late in the afternoon of a chilly, windy day, I decided to join the ride. It’s a good thing I did, too, since the few regulars chose to skip it. I arrived right on time at the meeting spot — a parking lot next to a deli near where I used to live, and was greeted by Dave, the organizer. After waiting a bit in case of …

The cool temperatures and clouds hung around again this morning so I got ready and did a Zwift ride. My temperature threshold of 60 was above the 52 degrees outside when I started to Zwift at 11:10 AM.
Getting prepared to ride went as planned and all the sensors connected while I waited for the ride to start. OBS recorded the ride and i listened to Pandora Disco Music during the ride. I think I am getting better and learning more about Zwift.
I chose a ride rather than a race with The Herd’s Saturday Rehabilitation Group Ride. I rode 17.9 miles which put my virtual riding for October at 92.2 miles and October’s total at 654.02 miles. The week’s total stands at 161.85 miles. Only 46 miles to reach my goal for October. I stopped after 1 hour but I think the ride continued.
Occasionally someone would leave the ride. When I signed in I wondered if only a few riders would be there but by the start time over 200 were at the line. This one person at the start line before the ride started was pedaling on a trainer and their left foot kept slipping off the pedal every few seconds. This kept going until the ride began. Zwift avatar’s are strange. I am getting use to some avatars riding through my avatar when they pass.
Sunday’s weather is supposed to warm up into the 70’s and I plan on biking outside.
“Disappointed but not discouraged†by the underwhelming turnout for the Greenville’s inaugural Lee Street Jamboree, the city’s Main Street, tourism, and parks and recreation departments are brainstorming on ways to improve the event’s draw in the future.
During the work session of Tuesday’s Greenville City Council meeting, the manager of the Main Street department, Doyle Dick, said the most people he counted at the two-day event was 200, during Grupo Stampede’s performance on Friday, Sept. 20. He also …
… The possible changes to the Jamboree he described included changing it to a one-day event instead of two, moving its location away from the Hunt County Courthouse (and possibly to Greenville Sports Park), or scheduling it for a different date than the annual Cotton Patch Challenge bike ride.
“The Cotton Patch bike ride brings in between 600 and 800 bicycle riders and really is an event in itself,†Dick said. “Maybe a lot of the people who rode the bikes would have been the …

Everyone has heard about the River Walk in San Antonio. Walking along the river to see the people, enjoy the restaurants or bars, or watch the boats sailing by can all be fun.
But there are also miles of the River Walk through the rest of San Antonio that are perfect for a bike ride and don’t have the crowds you see downtown. This can be done in one bike trip but there is so much to see that it is best to split this into multiple trips.
Our backyard bike park work has begun. In this video we are starting to put together the first line of our soon to be bike park, full of many jumps and other fun features. Subscribe to get updates on the build! …
… Cycling club gears up for campus, community rides
By Eric Lopez and Nilse Hernandez
Spinning your brains all week at school and just need a break?
The Texas A&M University-San Antonio Cycling Club is preparing for rides on and off campus, including these two:
a training ride at 6 p.m. Oct. 30 at the water fountain on campus.
a bicycle and coffee ride at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 3 at Bike World, 835 S.E. Military Drive.
The training rides help students get into shape and ready for the longer city rides, said Marisol Salas-Rios, the club’s founder and president.
Aaron Chamberlain is zigzagging through the Rosedale neighborhood, pedaling up one street and down the next like he’s looking for a lost puppy.
But Chamberlain hasn’t misplaced a pet — he’s on a mission to ride every street in Austin on his fixed-gear bicycle.
He ticks off roads in our 271.8-square-mile city methodically, and at one point jumps the curb and pedals across Ramsey Park. He coasts, admires an old car and chats while I tag along.
Chamberlain started his project on Nov. 27, 2018, inspired by …

The weather turned just like the forecast called for. Until mid-morning it rained lightly as the temperature dropped to around 50 degrees, 10 degrees below my outdoor biking threshold. No sunscreen or long sleeve jersey for today’s bike ride.
I gathered all of the tools to get going on Zwift: phone, water bottle, and clothes. After I dressed I selected a ride on Zwift starting in about 10 minutes. For the first time all of the parts connected and ready at the start. I almost forgot to start up the OBS program to record the ride but had a few minutes and started it as you can see in the video.
One of the things that used to give me trouble was using a fan during the workout. It would be chilly at the start because I had not warmed up yet and then I would get off the bike interrupting the workout to start the fan. I solved that problem. I bought some Wzye smart plugs and plugged the fan into it. Now I can turn on the fan using my phone when I need it.
Today’s 18.98 miles boosted my week total to 143.98 miles, October to 636.15 miles and leaves 64 miles to reach my goal for the month.
