In the midst of a week riddled with loss — for many, Imelda a sequel to that suffered during Harvey — Vladimir Pitman found the silver lining to his own story of serial misfortune.
It started at the Collision & Classics daily team meeting, 7:30 the morning after Vladimir’s story of his classic lowrider twice stolen was published in late July. In it, Vladimir spoke of his dream to remodel his 1973 Schwinn lowrider to …

With about a third of fall in the records you would expect the weather to act like it but during today’s bike ride 91 degrees accompanied me all of the 32.27 miles. No complaints because it will get cooler soon enough, like Tuesday. Today’s miles wrap up the week with 103.25 miles, ending my three week string of 200+ mile weeks. Thank you, stomach virus. For the month, I am up to 492.18 miles, 208 miles needed to reach my goal. 4 days off the bike hurt my progress.
The 12:27 PM start after church caused my exposure to the heat. Weather during the mid-afternoon bike ride: start 91 (66% humidity, 77.9 dew point), partly cloudy, wind S 12 mph gusts 20 mph. Finish 90 (65% humidity, 76.9 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 10 mph gusts 21 mph. Notice the wind! 20+ mph gusts was okay getting to Cumberland which is NW of Porter on FM 1314. The return to Kingwood meant a strong headwind. The worst segment happened on the southbound I-69/US59 frontage road from Azalea Blvd exiting Valley Ranch to the u-turn at Northpark Drive. Anytime I got out from behind a windbreak the gust reminded me the legs lose against the wind.
Near the end of the bike ride as I left I-69/US59 I bonked. The lone apple fritter I ate before starting left the engine room and the legs’ battle into the wind slowed from 15 to 16 mph down to 13 mph and less. Around 5 miles to finish the ride I rode through Woodridge Forest back into Kingwood and finished the biking for today.
The Relive animation shows my movement along the “Oakhurst – Cumberland – Valley Ranch” bike route.
Monday morning weather looks like rain. Zwifting will take place. I think I have learned more on Zwifting. I now have a holder for my phone and know it has to be on the same network. As long as the internet stays online I will do it. I have the potential to reach my “virtual riding” mileage goal for October; need 16 more miles.
From League City, Texas – near Houston -all the way to Benavides on his bicycle, Johnny Salinas is making the huge trip in honor of two loved ones taken too soon.
BENAVIDES, Texas — One local man, Johnny Salinas, has set out to ride his bicycle from League City, Texas to Benavides, TX in honor of two loved ones that died from cancer.

Fun race! With 4 teammates in the race we protected Bean as he went early with another rider, eventually getting a gap of 3-4 mins. Saw an opportunity to roll out solo to see what I could do for the last 90 minutes and held off the group for 3rd!
Flat at mile 3. Solo chasing for the last 50 miles Nursing rear flat. Finished 3rd. Still had fun and the course was beautiful! Thanks to the Mackeys, Race Ready, and volunteers!
No clip in shoes. No shorts (well, no padded shorts; I may do my small part to Keep Austin Weird, but my mother didn’t raise no idiot). Just started doing errands and since conditions were perfect I Just. Kept. Pedaling. I had several extended stops as is obvious from the elapsed time, including getting refreshments, soaking up the sun (sitting on a park bench) sending emails, two short meetings plus a stop at home to recharge my lights and Garmin vivoactiv hr watch. …

After not biking since Tuesday due to a stomach virus it got better and I hit the road today. I understand a little better about the professionals dropping out of a race with digestive distress. It is not comfortable. Four days of cramps puts riding down the priority list.
Waiting for the temperature to get out of the low 60’s I watched a cyclocross race on GCN before getting ready and rolling the wheels at 10:11 AM. I chose the “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” route because I ride there most Saturdays and it is easy to remember. Normally I expect to see many other bikers but with the later start I knew most of them finished before I started even though sunrise comes later. I saw a few and the largest group of three I forgot to turn the GoPro to record; 4 days off and I get rusty.
I didn’t expect too much from today’s ride due the stomach problems but according to Strava my effort was consistent with my usual activity. I did learn that if you don’t use a heart rate monitor this statement does not appear in the activity.
Weather the bike ride to Huffman and back: start 77 (75% humidity, 68.8 dew point), partly cloudy, wind SE 4 mph. Finish 86 (69% humidity, 74.4 dew point), partly cloudy, wind W 7 mph. As I say in the video a few more degrees would have been better but by the time I finished it warmed up. Arm sleeves at the start helped stave off the chill while riding in the shade. The all blue sky changed and clouds moved in spoiling the blue panorama.
I lost ground on reaching my goal of 700 miles for the month but today’s 34.64 miles boosted October to 459.91 miles leaving 240 miles to go. Only 73 miles left to reach my 6,800 mile goal for the year; more October, November, and December biking left.
Sunday looks good but Monday another one of those cold fronts passes through with 80% chance of rain. Tuesday I probably ride again.
