About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Chaparral Rails-to-Trails Inc. manages the section from …

By Braylee McCoy | www.kxii.com

GAINESVILLE, Tex. A Gainesville man completed a 168-mile bike race last weekend, and he used a prosthetic leg that he built himself to do it.

"I didn’t believe I could ever ride a bicycle again, after I lost my leg seven years ago, the doctors and the prosthetists I was working with all said ‘you’ll never ride a bicycle again just give it up’," cyclist Aaron Smith said.

My August Bike Rides Recap

Texbiker.net Posted on September 1, 2019 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 1, 2019

August is over and my bike rides totaled 576.03 miles, short of my 800 mile goal. My last ride was August 22nd when my wife’s health got to a point where I could leave her anymore. I am not sure when my rides will resume but that is okay as I spend time with my wife, Hazel Marie in her last days.

From RideWithGPS.com a summary of the rides during August. Year to date follows.

Traffic study finds adding protected bike lanes to portion of Broadway corridor not feasible

By Patty Santos | www.ksat.com

KSAT reported Thursday about suggested changes that were being requested to add bike lanes to a voter-approved project. …

Traffic Study Recommends Diverting Bike Lanes on Lower Broadway

Iris Dimmick IRIS DIMMICK | therivardreport.com

A City-commissioned traffic study on street design options for lower Broadway Street was completed this week. Designs including bike lanes received lower scores than the design that did not because consultants assumed protected bike lanes would be installed on adjacent streets.

The conclusion of the analysis by Pape-Dawson Engineers was to recommend the design as originally proposed – without bike lanes – to provide the best scenario for “vehicles, pedestrians, transit, and … utility lanes for parking/rideshare and loading and unloading,” according to a …
