Day 27, 28 and 29 Great Rest Days in Austin: We Made The Most Of It Saturday March 23, 2019 What a great time we had exploring Austin, relaxing and spending quality time with Julie and Claudia. Bruce and Julie loved the city, even more than Nashville and can’t wait to come back. Robert and Claudia also loved the town, the music, the food and exploring. Heck, night one after a power nap, Robert and Claudia listened to music until 1:30 a.m.!!! Bruce and Julie hit Dirty 6th (6th street as the locals call it.) Full blown party scene where the streets are shut down to traffic at 10:00 and music is pumping from every venue. We explored the many districts and sampled plenty of fine beverages in each one. Day 27: Uvalde-Del Rio, Tex. Tuesday March 26, 2019, 76 miles (122 km) – Total so far: 1,560 miles (2,511 km) I’m quite certain yesterday was not one of Happy’s favorite days of bicycling. She spent most of the night throwing up, certain she had food poisoning. Being weak with only a few crackers and water in her stomach, off she pedaled come daybreak. How she managed is beyond amazing. By lunch and after pedaling 40 miles, she was able to eat and resumed her lightning speed to Del Rio. She’s a warrior extraordinaire. The landscape has changed. We are entering the desert. With that comes the games your mind plays when all you see is nothing. First one cyclist passed us, carrying nothing. Cool morning, good roads for the most part, low traffic, and best of all wind at our back. One reason for riding east to west was to have the sun at our back in the morning.
