Day 21: Derrider to Silsbee Saturday March 16, 2019, 74 miles (119 km) – Total so far: 1,087 miles (1,749 km) Today was unremarkable in terms of sights. Once we crossed into Texas the road was 4-lane with a speed limit of 75. The road had a very wide shoulder. It was smooth sailing with a light wind at our back and a cool 60 degrees in the afternoon warming from 45 degrees when we departed in the morning. Dollar General Stores seem to be the WalMart for small towns. Every small town or city has a Dollar General. Some do have Family Dollar stores. We stopped at a Dollar General store once for fresh fruit. They do not sell anything fresh, just packaged processed food.

Short Report – Bruce is Tired Tonight after after a long ride today. We crossed into the Central time zone yesterday so it has us fouled up for early starts. We deviated from the ACA Route and rode Highway 90, rather than doing the Fort Davis route and climbs. Trying to stay on schedule, but more importantly ahead of the east winds. It appears they caught us and we will be east winding it for the next few days. This means working with the maps, looking at alternate lodging and camping options. HOUSTON (FOX 26) – Today marks one week since a cyclist died in a collision with an HISD school bus in the Heights. While the investigation into the cause of the accident continues, we want people out there on the roads to always be mindful of bicycles.
