Two streets in downtown Tyler have been identified as priorities for future infrastructure to improve travel for pedestrians and bicyclists.
The recommendations are part of a draft plan called Active Tyler that seeks to plan out how future pedestrian and bicycle paths should be built in Tyler and the surrounding parts of Smith County.
The draft plan gives rankings to more than 80 of Tyler’s streets in two categories: the impact on …
Corsicana residents who saw Michael Rosner, 26, Friday may have mistaken him for a 100 West artist-in-residence as he rode his bicycle to various exhibits of Corsicana Main Street’s Art After Hours. It was the first time, however, he ever set foot in the place.
Rosner of Germany works half the year as a theater sound engineer and stage technician and travels the other half.
“It was amazing to see the Warehouse Living Art Center’s production of …

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A city ordinance that Austin’s had for 10 years is now getting attention at the state level.
In Austin and about two dozen other Texas cities, if you’re driving and you want to pass a bicyclist or pedestrian who’s sharing the road with you, you’re required to leave at least three feet between you and them as you pass. For larger trucks, it’s six feet.
House Bill 962 filed last week aims to impose those requirements statewide. …
I met Randy in Palo Duro canyon outside of Amarillo Texas last weekend for a day of riding the canyon. I’m happy to get dinner and a drink or pedal around with one of my favorite people whenever possible.
We rode most of the “Baby Grand†loop and I was reminded how nice Palo Duro is. It’s not huge but you can spend twenty five of more miles pedaling a mix of rocky climbs and some flowy cross country. My critiques of the trail include sparse signage, abrupt turns after fast or twisty bits, and the downs not matching the statue of the climbs. …
The last three days I spent participating in these two events were a slice of bicyclist advocate heaven. Although I’m not being literal (read my post In Bike I Trust: The Faith of an Agnostic Athiest Cyclist for my thoughts on all that), it was a smorgasboard of education, networking, lobbying, and of course, bike riding. The first-ever event hosted by the board, staff and volunteers of Bike Texas brought 40 people together from many parts of Texas. I volunteered to attend as one of three representatives of Bike Austin. The summit was held Saturday-Sunday and the lobby day was …

Two men were arrested after officials stopped them for not having a front light on their bicycles, according to information from the Orange Police Department.

What to do for the die-hard cyclist this weekend? You could catch the final stage of the new UAE Tour, grab your bike and get some winter miles in, or stay in town and catch a ride with everyone’s favorite ex-pro, Jens Voigt. He’ll be in Arlington for the Grand Opening of Trek’s new store.

Richardson is offering to pony up a maximum of $200,000 for the sole unfunded segment of its Cotton Belt-adjacent hike and bike trail.
Three-and-a-half miles of the 26-mile trail will run through Richardson. Three of the city’s four trail segments are fully funded, except for Segment 21, a half-mile stretch connecting Waterview Parkway with the future Cotton Belt station at The University of Texas at Dallas. That segment is expected to cost about $600,000. …

San Marcos’ partnership with bike-share company VeoRide has reduced gas emissions by up to two million grams across the 6,000 miles tracked on the gold-tinted bikes, according to VeoRide communications director Linda Jackson.
In recent years, city and university officials have added bike lanes and parking to support alternative modes of transportation and manage traffic congestion in the cluttered downtown area. San Marcos joined the dockless pay-to-ride trend in Sept. 2018 as VeoRide bikes sprouted throughout the city. …

Come out to help represent cyclists in the Heights community for this public meeting.
The Heights community has brought up concerns about speeding and swerving vehicles on 11th street. One proposal for helping to resolve this issue is converting the existing 4 lane street to a 3 lane street.
This kind of change has a proven track record for resolving these kinds of problems.
We loved Erin's perspective, especially this bit: "The two-wheel experience gave me a more unique and appealing perception of my surrounding, versus the monotony of driving. I could smell the food from restaurants around me and feel the wind on my face…" #midtownHOUhttps://t.co/WDgv1OURfx

The truth is, mountain biking is barely recognizable from what it was in 1998. Back then, bikes had 3 chainrings up front, bar ends, grip shifters, 26 inch wheels with the widest tire width being 1.95. Most people still did not ride with suspension, elbow or knee pads or any mountain bike specific clothing. People did thankfully wear helmets back then but these were poorly designed and made the wearer look like a bobble head doll. …
We missed the winning break. Tried to do work to get it back and blew it. I rolled off the front for the last couple laps with a couple guys. Finished up the hill in the small ring…a broken man. Haha
My first Cat 3 race ever. I got 13th/54 riders solo representing Rice U…Awesome!! There was a major crash in another race in front of us for women’s. We got neutralized with 4 miles to go. I hope that the women who was taken in an ambulance is okay
