About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Tiny Bike Parts Cause Big Problems. Atascocita – Walden – Huffman

Texbiker.net Posted on February 6, 2024 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 6, 2024

The tiny bike parts can derail a bike ride. that almost happened before today’s bike ride. As I was about to lower my Cervelo Caledonia from the rack I squeezed the rear tire and it was flat. I repaired that tire last week and my first thought was that patch failed. Rather than switch to another bike I chose to work on the flat. I removed the tube, pumped it up and it held air. As I looked down on the floor I saw the removable Presta valve core laying there. Those removable valve cores have given me many problems. I screwed it into the valve stem and tightened with some pliers. I put the tube back in the tire and mounted it on the rim. Pumped up the tire held air while I got dressed. This delayed the start of the ride to12:27 PM. Stating later than I planned I still wanted to ride to Huffman on my Atascocita – Walden – Huffman route but left a couple of streets out. The rear tire held air for the whole ride which leads me to believe the problem was the valve core.

After finishing the ride at 2:53 PM I noticed the front derailleur wasn’t showing up on the gear page on my Bolt computer. When i tried to shift the front derailleur nothing happened. I messed with it but have not found the solution yet. I will look at later today.

PTR-MTB | www.youtube.com

PTR-MTB visits the newest mountain bike park in the US – Station Mountain Bike Park sitting about an hour northwest of Austin, Texas.
Was an amazing day of skill training from literally hitting more jumps in four hours than we maybe hit all of last year.
The Station story is truly inspiring and we think they are on to something truly amazing deep in the heart of Texas. Can’t wait to go back!

Zwift Watopia Triple Flat Loops, Not Exactly Flat But Okay

Texbiker.net Posted on February 5, 2024 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 5, 2024

The flattest stretches of Watopia. 21.1 miles, 514 feet elevation gain. I wasn’t quite as fast as my last ride January 16th but decent. I appreciated the climbing was “only” 514 feet.

Southern Tier El Paso to New Orleans

By Cortney O. | www.crazyguyonabike.com

Day 24: Austin to Bastrop: Longhorns, Hipcamp farm camp, and wind from all directions Sunday February 4, 2024, 40 miles (64 km) – Total so far: 779 miles (1,254 km) Leaving Austin should have been easier than it was. But the winds decided otherwise.

We considered taking a locals advice and head out towards Manor instead of by the airport but the huge wind forecasted told us to follow the ACA route which was shorter and established and supposedly had quiet roads.

I’m pretty sure we went off course because we were not on quiet roads, the shoulders disappeared and the traffic was dangerous. That and the wind made for a tedious day.

We rarely feel like we can’t wait to …
