About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Tour de Paris rolls to 34th year

Trent Reed | theparisnews.com

Derald Bulls, director of Institutional Advancement and Alumni Affairs at Paris Junior College, has been involved in the Tour de Paris since before it gained its title. He said the community support has always been strong throughout its 33 years.

“Knowing there are some 700 volunteers who all play a key role in the success of the event is monumental,” Bulls said. “While the event began as a two-phase activity, a 5K run and a bicycle rally, the history of the event and the buy-in has made this one of the most successful rides in the state, as I understand.” …

Fork in the Spring Creek Greenway Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on July 16, 2018 by Rick AnkrumJuly 16, 2018

I chose the “Spring Creek Greenway” route today for variety and to keep my plan to ride it at least once a month. I set out at 9:46 am and finished at 1:30 pm. I bicycled 43.33 miles. Weather during the bike ride: start 85 (77% humidity), mostly cloudy with haze, wind SW 8 mph. Finish 94 (54% humidity), partly cloudy, wind W 5 mph. Two of the nice aspects of the greenway is the amount of shade and the protection from strong wind. The terrain is relatively flat though there are a few inclines where I get out of the saddle to keep my speed.

There weren’t a lot of people on the greenway and I saw one Harris County Precinct 4 Deputy Constable on his bike twice. He was pedaling along and I said hello both times and he responded.

At one of the trail heads I took these photos. This is where the trail is not clearly marked at the fork.

Bike Ride Spring Creek Greenway-1

Bike Ride Spring Creek Greenway-2

The map might help but if you are riding along making the choice without stopping is tough. This 3.4 miles west of Jesse Jones Park entrance to the greenway. One of the nice things is the mile markers along the route every tenth of a mile.

When I got to the end of the trail where the barrier says under construction it was moved out of the way but I didn’t go past it. Earlier I passed a Precinct 4 truck and crew spreading mulch on the side of the asphalt so on the return I stopped and asked if the trail was open beyond the barrier. He said no they are still working on it but it will open soon. He didn’t clarify what they were working on when I asked that.

After that I stopped at the next park to refill my water bottle for the return to Jesse Jones Park. The ride back there went well and I stopped near the restrooms for a rest break. The Wahoo Elemnt summary at that point.

Wahoo Ride Summary Jesse Jones Park

After about 20 minutes I refilled my water bottle for the 10 mile ride to home and got back on the Canyon.

When I reached the last bridge before the east trail exit I took these photos. The water looks like a good alligator pond. I am still trying to get the selfie photo thing down.

At the trail head there was a pickup truck parked which might have belonged to the last people I saw before exiting the greenway. The parking is not very good there.

Next biking day will probably be Wednesday. The weather forecast says hot and dry for the next 10+ days. Summer is here!!
