Texas V\u00c3\u00a9lo<\/strong><\/a> cycling routes describe the roads, hills and sights found along the best bicycling roads in Texas. Print the routes and their companion maps for free. Routes feature maps, statistics, turn-by-turn directions, and elevation profiles. Importantly, they also identify food\/hydration resources available (or not) along the way. COME AND BIKE IT \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Great Texas Cycling<\/p>\n

Fort Worth Bike Map<\/strong><\/a> Patterson Law Group created a map of popular Fort Worth bike routes.<\/p>\n

CycleTexas.com<\/strong><\/a> has a collection of free detailed bicycle ride maps<\/strong><\/a> for the Texas Hill Country\u00c2\u00a0 with narrative on their website. To quote from their About Us page, “The inspiration for this site grew from personal attempts to travel and ride in many parts of the country, where we were frequently disappointed by poor maps, poor roads, poor lodging, and sometimes all three.”<\/p>\n

Beauty & The Beast<\/a><\/strong>
Tyler, Texas. The route for 2000 is entirely different from the previous one. The ride was on April 15, 2000.
Pineywoods Purgatory Ride<\/a><\/strong>
Lufkin, Texas The route has not changed for a number of years. This is the 1999 map. This ride is a must: great rest stops and the best fajitas at the finish.
Pineywoods Purgatory Ride<\/a><\/strong>
Lufkin, Texas. The route changed in 2003. Now the route goes north and then south. Very scenic with lightly traveled back roads.
Hotter’n Hell Hundred<\/a><\/strong>
Wichita Falls, Texas The big ride in Texas. Temperatures are usually over 100 at the finish. 2000 was no exception, 105 at the finish.
Humble Lions Club Bike Ride.<\/strong> This is a new ride starting in 2003. The routes are on three different maps. Humble is on the northeast side of Houston. 30 mile route<\/a> 55 mile route<\/a> 70 mile route<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Lone Star Bicycle Route.<\/strong> According to the back of the paper map I have, “The Lone Star Bicycle Roue was researched and developed by the Texas College Bicentennial Program and the Texas Cycling Committee. It provides a scenic, safe and reasonably direct route across a large sweep of southern and southwestern landscape. Following paved rural roads and hard-surfaced urban bikeways, the Lone Star Route is designed for cross-country, regional and local travel. For the cross-country bicyclist, the Route connects with major transcontinental routes on either end.”<\/p>\n

“In 1976 bicyclists Brian McCarron and Phil Burden made a 9,000 mile tour of the United States. Their tour included the Austin-Amarillo portion of the Lone Star Bicycle Route. Brian’s evaluation: ‘Both Phil and I felt that it was well routed with excellent camping options. The farm roads we followed offered fantastic scenery with good road surface and virtually no traffic.’ Average riders should be encouraged by Brian and Phil’s tour. Neither rider had extensive bicycle touring experience prior to their trip.”<\/p>\n

In spite of the 33 years since the map was published the route is still viable. I am remapping the route at www.bikely.com for those who want to look at the route and even consider riding the whole or part of the tour route.<\/p>\n

Tyler Texas Bicycle Trails and Rides<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The Tyler area offers a number of recreational trails and parks for biking, located in the center of the city and in outlying areas. The terrain surrounding Tyler is mostly forested, gently rolling hills, dotted with ranches, lakes, and pastures.<\/p>\n

The elevation in Smith County ranges from 300 to 600 feet, providing biking challenges even for the most experienced riders. Even in the City of Tyler, bicyclists will find hills and elevation changes which provide exciting biking rides, as well as flat trails for more relaxing times.<\/p>\n
