My oldest daughter forwarded this article to me from a writer, Bruce Weber, with the New York Times. Bruce recounts his second bike ride across the United States. This story does not have a direct Texas aspect but it is something I have wanted to do. There are probably many bikers out there with this dream. Bruce made it a reality not once but twice. \nThe Speed Ride route planning has been put on hold due to the awful Texas drought. Our Scout reports that the routes he has been looking at are cracking really bad — would cause major damage to ties and wheels. So we are going to have to wait until closer to the HOT to map out a safe route — see what roads are safe and also see what roads will be under construction to repair the damage.
