\nThe second race of the inaugural Texas High School Mountain Bike League opened under heavy cloud and a weather report of thunderstorms. The night before, my wife Thamine drove me to DeRidder, LA where we spent the night at the American Best Value Inn. Newly renovated place and very clean. Early in the morning on Friday, Thamine had get back to work, she drops me off in Merryvile, just outside the Texas Louisiana border and official start of my Texas crossing. I unload the bike at a gas station and start to mount panniers and pump up tires. There is no breakfast place open at 07:00 am when we get there so sandwiches from the gas station have to do as breakfast.
