After spending the weekend in Wichita Falls it is back to the normal surroundings. I checked my timing chip results for Saturday riding the 100K route in 4:52:38. Not bad considering the big slowdown the last 15 to 16 miles with the strong wind. Riding with all of the other riders was a big change for me since I usually ride by myself. Today I was back on the road by myself. Traffic was not too bad now that the schools are back in session around here.<\/p>\n

The weather shows signs of creeping to fall. While the temperature can still get up to the mid-90’s the intensity is just not the same as in July and early August. When I left home this morning at 10:18 is was 83 degrees (70% humidity) and when I finished at 12:26 it was 92 degrees (49% humidity). Scattered clouds and a light 9 mph NNW breeze complete the scene. Tropical Storm Isaac might impact our weather towards the end of the week with some rain.<\/p>\n

The route I chose today took me to New Caney to the north and then back down US59 into Valley Ranch. I typical route does not go south of Kingwood Drive when I go this direction but today I wanted to vary it so I went south to Hamblen Road and into Kingwood through Forest Cove. This route totaled 32.27 miles<\/strong> at 15.6 mph average speed, 22.5 mph max speed and 80.8 RPM average cadence. Riding time was 2:03:55 with 4:25 time stopped. Lately I avoided extended rest stops to cut down on the overall time I was out. Using a CamelBak allows me to carry enough cold water for this length and not make any stops other than for traffic lights.<\/p>\n

Mileage for August now stands at 656.91<\/strong> and YTD shows 4591.87 miles<\/strong>. Tomorrow’s ride will need to be early and about the same length due to other commitments. Se an alternate view of this ride at RideWithGPS.com<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n
