Tall, dark and with the best hair on the team, Derek recently departed Dallas Cowboys Racing to join us here at CCHD. His departure from the Cowboys may have been a prelude to the dismissal of Rob Ryan as defensive coordinator as they both had the same passion for the sport, their own hair and cheese cakes.<\/p>\n<p>Derek is extremely competitive and loves the competitive nature of cycling. He lives by the motto\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6\u00e2\u20ac\u009dIf you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re not first your last\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (thank you Ricky Bobby). We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re cooking up a great afternoon, so be sure to join the event, share the event with your friends and check back regularly for updates.<br \/>\nDate:\u00c2\u00a0 Sunday, February 17th<br \/>\nMeet up time: 1:00 PM<br \/>\nStart time: 1:30 PM<br \/>\n*This event will benefit Jason Roberts\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 cancer recovery<\/p>\n<hr align=\"left\" width=\"65%\" \/>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/bvmba.net\/wordpress\/?p=698\" href=\"http:\/\/bvmba.net\/wordpress\/?p=698\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>2013 El Paso Puzzler<\/strong><\/span><\/a><br \/>\nby tonkster\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0Brazos Valley Mountain Bike Association<br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bvmba.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/MnJ-EP-Puzzler2013.jpg?resize=404%2C616\" width=\"404\" height=\"616\" \/><br \/>\nThe Race was held at Franklin Mountains State Park with a total of 146 confirmed riders as of Wednesday evening pre-registration cutoff time.<\/p>\n<p>The race was cut into 3 pieces to form the 50 mile puzzler.\u00c2\u00a0 The 1st piece was an 8 mile loop that ran across the lower foothills on the mid north east section of the mountain range and looped back toward the start\/finish line to complete the 1st piece of the puzzler.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 After nearly 900 ft of climbing my legs and lungs were in for a long day.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunetly, Mike had 3 pinched flats on the Pipeline Road and had to run the final 2 miles back to the start\/finish line.\u00c2\u00a0 We all know racing and this is one of those things thats just fustrates the heck out of us.\u00c2\u00a0 Believe me he would recover and recover with a vengeance!!!<\/p>\n<p>The 2nd piece of the puzzle was a 27 mile ride. First we would spin are legs throught the Lazy Cow trail the onto the Old Tin Mine road then we went up and around the southern portion of the Franklin Mts. on Mundy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Gap trail.\u00c2\u00a0 I knew It would be a grinder for me and the other five riders I was climbing with. Next thing I hear, in the faint distance \u00e2\u20ac\u0153just keep swimming, just keep swimming\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.\u00c2\u00a0 You know it Mitey Mike was&#8230;<\/p>\n<hr align=\"left\" width=\"65%\" \/>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/www.vaguedirection.com\/day63\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vaguedirection.com\/day63\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>Day 66: Dequincy, LA to Kountze, TX (66 miles)<\/strong><\/span><\/a><br \/>\nwww.vaguedirection.com<br \/>\nFinally the storm that the whole of Louisiana has been complaining about is over! It was replaced with light drizzle in the morning, which is nothing compared to the more recent rain, so was a pleasure to ride in. The storm brought with it a cold spell, so it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the first time it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s felt properly cold on the trip so far. Nothing more layers and gloves don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t solve.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.vaguedirection.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/BLOG2.jpg?resize=900%2C600\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A great ride, the drizzle eventually easing (that phrase sounds like a weather report, don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t you think?). And there it was. Shining, covered in neon lights. Just kidding, it wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t shining or covered in neon lights. The Texas state line, at Deweyville, TX. Where the riding gets \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcreal\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 (i.e. headwinds and hills, apparently).
