Houston Passes Ordinance to Protect Cyclists, Others from Vehicular Traffic<\/strong><\/span><\/a>

\nNew Law Defines Space Needed to Maintain Traffic Safety for all Road Users
\nMayor Annise Parker and Houston City Council Members today unanimously approved an ordinance to protect Houston\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s cyclists and other vulnerable road users by requiring cars and other motor vehicles to keep a separation of more than three feet while passing, and trucks or commercial vehicles to keep a separation of more than six feet. The ordinance is effective immediately.<\/p>\n

Vulnerable road users are defined as a walkers or runners; the physically disabled, such as someone in a wheelchair; a stranded motorist or passengers; highway construction, utility or maintenance workers; tow truck operators; cyclists; moped, motor-driven cycle and scooter drivers; or horseback riders.<\/p>\n

\nThe meeting of May 6 was short but very very sweet.
\nRenee welcomed many new members and talked about the “Beginner’s Ride” 14 riders participated in a new joy of riding.<\/p>\n

Don’t forget the Iron Man Texas coming up. The club is responsible for manning the south sector. We are short 20 volunteers. Events can only happen with the help of volunteers. You can sign up on club website. Volunteering is good for the soul.<\/p>\n
