The police department impounds unregistered bikes that are still operable for about 120 days to allow owners to claim them.<br \/>\nGlenewinkel said there are many benefits that arise from these roundups, including clearing up&#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/xgames.espn.go.com\/bmx\/article\/9467790\/influential-bmx-street-rider-james-shepherd-injured-bicycle-accident\" href=\"http:\/\/xgames.espn.go.com\/bmx\/article\/9467790\/influential-bmx-street-rider-james-shepherd-injured-bicycle-accident\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>James Shepherd recovering from serious injuries<\/strong><\/span><\/a><br \/>\nBy Brian Tunney\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0xgames.espn.go.com<br \/>\nBMX legend and early influential street rider James Shepherd was released from the hospital Wednesday after suffering serious injuries while riding his bike July 4 in Austin, Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Shepherd, 42, was traveling via BMX bike on South Lamar Boulevard in Austin when a car veered too close to him, according to Tom Williams, a longtime friend of Shepherd&#8217;s and the owner of Empire BMX, a shop in Austin.
