Day 1 Riding The NETT<\/strong><\/a><\/span>

\nThis is Dean Nix\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s personal recap of his ride up the Northeast Texas Trail (NETT). Day One
\nJuly 11, 2013
\nThe day\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s goal was to ride from Farmersville to Clarksville, 91.5 miles. I wanted to set a quick pace early because I expected to slow once I hit difficult sections of the trail later in the day when the heat would arrive. The plan was to be wheels down at 6:00am average at least a 9mph pace leaving 2 hours for stops with an arrival at 6:00pm. That also left 3 hours of daylight to deal with any physical, mechanical or navigational errors. I would ride the trail to Pecan Gap (36.5 miles). I would then evaluate or try the poorly rated sections of Pecan Gap to Ben Franklin to Roxton (See NETT Rout recommendations in documents…<\/p>\n

\nThe 2010 Mobility Bond Guadalupe Improvement Project and Capital Metro\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s MetroRapid Project created an opportunity to install protected bicycle lanes on Guadalupe Street. While considering solutions for the southbound MetroRapid bus platform on Guadalupe near the UT Coop that would not adversely impact storm water drainage, the feasibility of installing physically protected bicycle lanes was explored.
\nThe project’s design team found that by moving the transit platform and on-street parking away from the curb, the drainage issues were resolved, and at the same time, the opportunity was created for physically protected bicycle facilities in…<\/p>\n
