In Seattle, the city has used two wholesale road reconstructions, on Linden Avenue and Broadway, as chances to install cement curb separations. In Austin, two blocks of 3rd Street downtown are now&#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/www.austinridgeriders.com\/content\/walnut-creek-trail-closures-2014\" href=\"http:\/\/www.austinridgeriders.com\/content\/walnut-creek-trail-closures-2014\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>Walnut Creek Trail Closures for 2014<\/strong><\/span><\/a><br \/>\nAustin Ridge Riders<br \/>\nAs part of the ongoing partnership that ARR enjoys with the City of Austin, we are going to be doing all we can to help with the trail closures at Walnut Creek during the installation of the new paved multiuse path.\u00c2\u00a0 However, rest assured, that these closures are TEMPORARY and absolutely necessary for the SAFETY of the trail users.\u00c2\u00a0 Because there will be heavy equipment and laborers that are unfamiliar with trail users, it was in the best interest of both to temporarily close portions of the trail from January 4th until September 1.\u00c2\u00a0 To that end, here are some things to consider with the trail closures:<\/p>\n<p>1. Making sure that when a trail closure is put in place we abide by it. While we have a great relationship with the City we don&#8217;t want to give them a reason to question it;<\/p>\n<p>2. Communicate the plan to as many people as possible. We are also happy to announce that due to the strong impact of cancer in our community and the overwhelming success of last years event, we have founded the Big Pig Cancer Foundation to make all of this years donations tax deductible and help provide an avenue for supporting local families in their time of need.<\/p>\n<p>In light of our communities recent loss, this year we have officially renamed the event in honor of local endurance, mountain bike legend Ray Porter who passed away on December 27th after being diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma on November 13, 2013. Ray and his wife Gina have been active supporters of the Dallas \/ Ft. If you had to compete against him you know what a phenomenal athlete he was and I doubt anyone minded losing to him.
